MAIN DUTIES
- Ensures that the sawmill & planer mill production meets Binderholz product quality standards (e.g., size requirements, moisture content, grading, etc.) by managing a program of inspection, testing, and employee quality training. Implements standards procedures regarding quality control.
- Establishes necessary record-keeping processes.
- Confirms that all systems and processes that directly affect quality measures are up to date
(computer parameters, grader instructions, etc.) and that machinery is adjusted to required tolerances.
- Serves as the facilities’ primary representative with the inspection agencies.
- Ensures the mill is meeting PLIB grading standards, keep accurate and timely quality records for internal scanner calibrations, equipment verification, quality check sheets, training databases, optimization parameters, and compliance issues at the mill location.
- Grades and sorts softwood SYP in accordance with third party (TP / SPIB / PLIB) inspection requirements
- Creates, controls, and manages all Quality tools and documents. Tools include quality check sheets monitoring equipment and process performance, quality equipment used to measure performance throughout the sawmill process, and data signifying presence of a quality system at the facility.
- Confirms that all systems and processes that directly affect quality measures are up-to-date

- Monitor performance of quality control systems to ensure effectiveness and efficiency.
- Obtains assets to achieve quality goals (personnel, training, and tools).
ADDITIONAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Profess. Background / Education Bachelor’s level education in engineering or technology, business, quality management, or a related area; highly preferred
- Minimum of 1-3 years of professional level experience in a wood products or similar production environment with experience in either quality control.

- SPIB Certification or equivalent Lumber Grader Agency
Certification is an asset
- Experience with USNR- LHG a plus.
Required Skills / Knowledge Physically able to conduct inspections and carry equipment used for inspections
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
- Prolonged periods of standing and walking
- Ability to navigate potentially difficult environments to access necessary locations/equipment
- Ability to lift and carry 40 pounds at a time
- Ability to properly utilize PPE necessary for individual location requirements
- Ability to work in environments that are hot, loud and dusty
- Ability to work in a diverse, multicultural work environment
Minimum Relevant Job Experience 2-5 years of experience as Lumber Grader in a lumber manufacturing environment
