Duties

  • Mounts bindings and reconditions skis.
  • Uses proper tools to mount ski bindings IA W the ski and bindings manufacturer's specification.
  • Effectively uses professional calibration equipment to test ski bindings for release within specific tolerances and parameters based on size and ability of user.
  • Performs complete maintenance and reconditioning on over 500 pair of skis in a timely manner.
  • Replaces ski boot buckles, liners, heel plates, ski poles, baskets, etc., as needed.
  • Properly performs complete reconditioning, mounting and testing of skis as requested.
  • Performs maintenance and repair of other recreational equipment.
  • Accomplishes timely maintenance and repair on various recreational items such as stoves, lanterns, heaters, etc.
  • Performs minor sewing in tents, tarps, and dining canopies as required.
  • Effectively replaces lawn chair webbing, backpack straps and buckles, sterilizes canteens, and water coolers.
  • Performs minor maintenance on other items as required.
  • Recommends contract repair of items not repairable in-house.
  • Performs maintenance and repair of small electrical and gasoline powered gardening equipment and travel trailers.
  • Performs routine periodic maintenance and makes mechanical or electrical repairs of two and four-cycle gasoline powered engines i.e., log-splitter, roto-tillers, lawn thatchers, chain saws, aerators, lawn mowers, etc.
  • As required, replaces internal engine components, i.e., rings, pistons, valves, gaskets, rods and bearings according to manufacturer's specifications when required.
  • In a timely manner prepares power equipment for winter storage.
  • Cleans equipment, changes oil and drains gas from system.
  • Properly prepares power equipment for winter storage.
  • Changes oil, spark plugs, filters, belts as required.
  • Checks all equipment and tightens loose components.
  • Properly prepares campers and trailer for winter storage, such as draining water systems and cleaning interior.
  • Properly prepares trailers for summer use in a timely manner, i.e., checks and repairs as necessary electrical and plumbing connection/components, repacks wheel bearings, changes tires and other repairs as required.
  • Effectively performs general maintenance throughout the season to ensure equipment is maintained in serviceable condition.
  • Performs customer service duties in the Outdoor Recreation Center.
  • Effectively issues recreational items and other equipment to customers.
  • Properly instructs customers on safety rules, use and care of issue equipment.
  • Provides patrons prompt, courteous information on ski and camping areas, current ski lift rates, equipment fees, and some accommodations information.
  • Accurately sets ski bindings to proper release tension based on customer skill, height, weight, age, and properly fits ski boots.
  • Thoroughly checks equipment when turned in for cleanliness and damages.
  • Maintains accountability of funds, resale items and equipment.
  • Accurately records transactions and fees collected.
  • Verifies accuracy against receipts on daily basis.
  • Ensures cash tickets, receipts, etc., are securely maintained.
  • Promptly collects fees from patrons.
  • Promptly prepares cashier reports and makes bank deposits.
  • Prepares timely, accurate monthly activity reports as required.
  • Conducts monthly and semiannually inventories and assists in the accurate control of issue equipment.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Qualifying Experience:
  • Applicant must have knowledge of equipment assembly to troubleshoot, maintain, and repair.
  • Experience fixing small electrical or gasoline powered gardening equipment or similar equipment is required.
  • Ability to read and interpret manufacturer's part lists, specifications, and repair manuals is required.
  • Knowledge of types, use, care, and safety of recreational equipment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Cash handling experience is required.
  • May be subject to an uncommon tour of duty.

Education

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. This position does not allow for education substitution.

You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education program.
