We are Para la Naturaleza, a nonprofit environmental organization based in Puerto Rico and we are looking for a candidate to join our team! Our Reforestation and Volunteers Officer is responsible for creating, coordinating and guiding reforestation activities to meet organizational reforestation goals of the assigned areas of Puerto Rico. The selected candidate will participate in the recruitment processes of volunteers and logistics of assigned reforestation activities. Other tasks may include: to help plan and prepare the areas to be reforested with groups and volunteers; maintain alliances with communities and private and non-private entities to help achieve reforestation goals; and responsible for data collection and data entry of reforestation information. Part of the field tasks may include, site seeing, seed collection, tree monitoring and plant trees. This requires availability to work rotating shifts, extended hours, on weekends, holidays and travel within and outside of Puerto Rico when needed. This is a Full Time Regular position based in Fajardo, PR.


REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Natural Sciences, Social Sciences, Education, Tourism or other related areas from an accredited university or college.
  • Preferably, 2 - 3 years of experience in a similar position, offering tours or guiding volunteer activities.
  • 2 - 3 years of experience in customer service, sales and offering presentations.
  • Experience performing field work and/or scientific investigations, working in tree nurseries and reforestation.
  • Experience working with biology field equipment, such as GPS, PH measuring devices, among others.
  • Preferably, knowledge in OSHA, environmental management plans, botany, agro-ecological practices, tree production techniques and use of pesticides.
  • Preferably, knowledge and experience driving standard vehicles.
  • Preferably, knowledge or experience with Geographic Information Systems and map interpretation.
  • Preferably, experience using field equipment, that may include for example, machetes, “trimmers”, among others.
  • Must be available to work in open field areas, such as mountains, coast areas, among others.
  • Knowledge with MAC operating system and Outlook is preferred.
  • Proficiency in word processing, worksheets and presentation programs, such as MS Office (Word, Excel PowerPoint) and Internet search.
  • Excellent communication skills in both English and Spanish (spoken and written).
  • Must have Driver’s License of Puerto Rico.
  • Preferably, have Drivers’ License (Category #4 or more).
  • Preferably, have C.P.R., Emergency Management or Interpretative Guide Certifications.
