Job Location: Southeast District Office, 2675 North Main Street, Sikeston, Missouri

The regional counsel supervises and directs legal activities of the Regional Counsel Office.

What you’ll do:

• Recommends appropriate staffing levels to the chief counsel; supervises and directs the work of professional and support staff; evaluates performance and makes recommendations on employment, promotion, transfer, disciplinary action, and discharge consistent with equal employment opportunity principles and the department's affirmative action plan.
• Trains staff and coordinates with private counsel regarding trial preparation, technique, and substantive law and monitors work progress.
• Provides legal advice and counsel to the district engineer and staff on various legal matters and policies as requested and provides appropriate and timely responses.
• Prepares and tries or argues cases within the district with high risk or unique legal questions or as necessary.
• Performs other duties and special projects as assigned.

All you need for success:

Minimum Qualifications

• Juris Doctor Degree.
• Membership in good standing with the Missouri Bar Association.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Litigation experience in Missouri state courts.

Special Working Conditions:

• Maintain attorney-client privilege.
• Supervise attorney, paralegal and executive assistant staff.
• Some travel, including occasional overnight travel, to judicial circuits within the Southeast District.

Preferred Qualifications

• Litigation experience regarding condemnation/inverse condemnation and tort liability cases.
