Our Mission: Family TIES (FT) of Massachusetts is a statewide information and support network for families of children with special health care needs and/or disabilities Family TIES of MA provides information and referral, technical assistance, and training for parents of children with special health needs or disabilities and professionals serving families. Family TIES is a project of the Federation for Children with Special Needs (FCSN), funded by the Division of Early Intervention at the Massachusetts Department of Public Health, Bureau of Family, Health and Nutrition (DPH).

Job Summary:

Regional Parent Coordinators provide information, referral, technical assistance, and training to parents facing a variety of challenges in raising their children with special health needs. Regional Parent Coordinators identify support parents, emerging parent leaders, and parent trainers. This is a part-time position (20 hours) based in the Central MA region. The Parent Coordinator must live in the Central MA region and will work at the Department of Public Health satellite office in Marlborough at least three days per week. During COVID, we have a hybrid work schedule with 1-2 days in the office and working form home.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Provide information and technical assistance on early intervention, state and regional resources, and supports to parents, caregivers, and providers.
  • Identify and facilitate supports and collaboration activities with diverse communities within the region.
  • Offer information and resource materials at community-based public meetings, conferences, and health fairs.
  • Responsible for data collection and record-keeping.
  • Identify parents to participate in the statewide Parent-to-Parent program and Family Advisor Program.
  • Connect parents to a variety of training activities offered by Family TIES, other Federation and DPH/CYSHN programs, and statewide organizations and agencies.
  • Provide training and technical assistance that are accessible to all parents, including those who are non-English speakers or who have limited English proficiency.
  • Assist in planning and staffing the Federation’s annual conference, Visions of Community.
  • Attend DPH regional office meetings, Federation staff meetings, and other meetings, as Attend Bureau of Family Health & Nutrition annual staff meeting, Division for Children and Youth with Special Health Needs, all staff meetings, and annual Massachusetts Early Intervention Consortium Conference.
  • Serve in advisory and consultant roles to the Office of Family Initiatives at the Division of Early Intervention at DPH and participate in DPH and Federation activities, as requested.
  • Collaborate with staff of the Early Intervention and Regional Consultation programs, Early Intervention Parent Leadership Project, DPH Community Support Line and Care Coordination Programs, DPH Central MA office staff, Federation staff, and peers in Parent-to-Parent programs.
  • Other duties, as requested by the Project Director.

Required Qualifications:

  • Parent of a child with special health needs, disabilities, and/or chronic illness
  • Bachelor’s degree (experience may be substituted for education)
  • Two years of paid and/or volunteer experience providing support and information to parents
  • Strong communication, interpersonal skills, and public speaking skills
  • Ability to work both independently and in collaboration with others
  • Strong computer skills and knowledge of Zoom, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, Outlook, and PowerPoint) or ability to learn
  • Knowledge of community resources in Central MA region
  • Ability to work occasional weekends and evening
  • Valid Massachusetts driver’s license and access to a car

The Regional Parent Coordinator reports to the Family TIES of MA Project Director. This position is 20 hours per week, with excellent benefits.
