Overview:
The BMT RN Program Coordinator acts as a liaison to patients and referring hospitals during the pre-bone marrow transplant screening a preparatory process. BMT RN Program Coordinator works closely with payers and Nationwide Children's Hospital staff to satisfy payer coverage requirements or to assist in locating potential coverage options for transplant patients. The BMT RN Coordinator will work with the transplant clinicians for all pre transplant testing and clinician work-up and schedules patients for admissions/services at the direction of the BMT physicians or nurse practitioners. The principal duties and responsibilities involve direct patient care, external services (NMDP, Apheresis Program, OSU BMT laboratories, Ohio Bone Marrow Transplant Consortium), financial and administrative duties for all of the pre bone marrow transplant patients at Nationwide Children’s Hospital. 2. Obtains necessary clinical, demographic, and financial information for patients and arranges for visit/discussion with pre transplant patients. Coordinates the financial pre determination of insurance or Medicaid coverage.
3. Coordinates and schedules pre transplant patient screening, evaluations and preparation which include but are not limited to: HLA typing, Central Venous line placement, procedures in operating room, bone marrow harvest, labs, testing, apheresis, and BMT laboratories.
4. Initiates NMDP donor searches and ensures compliance with NMDP requirements. Serves as a liaison between BMT program and referring physicians. Communicates research protocol requirements and provides assistance to referring physicians.
5. Reporting of quality improvement measures and outcomes (RFI reports to ASBMT, CIBMTR, PBMTC, FACT and insurance payers.
6. Completes Ohio Bone Marrow Transplant Consortium paperwork to secure pre-approval for Medicaid patients. Assists in the completion of applications, for patients to qualify for financial assistance.
7. Monitors pre transplant status of each patient and reports patient status to physician and nurse practitioner team with weekly updates.
8. Completes patient charges or enters patient’s charges for NMDP and other services. Validates accuracy of posted charges.
9. Administrative duties include but are not limited to: attending conferences for local and national training sessions, serves as back up to BMT Data Coordinator, assists in the development and maintenance of standard operating procedures. Qualifications:
MINIMUM PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS Note frequency as Constantly (67-100%), Frequently (34-66%) and Occasionally (0-33%) for each requirement. Sitting - Occasional Talking on phone/in person Occasional Typing on a keyboard frequently Standing/walking frequently Lifting requirements of up to 20lbs. KNOWLEDGE , SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
1. Bachelor Degree in Nursing
2. Current Ohio RN license
3. BMT experience and CHTC certification preferred
4. Effective communication skills, customer service, interpersonal skills and ability to organize tasks.
5. Knowledge and expertise in the application of teaching and learning principles and methods as they relate to patient-parent teaching required.
