Job Summary:
The Registered Nurse - Trauma will be responsible for providing direct patient care to critically ill or injured patients in the hospital's trauma center. The RN will assess patients' needs and collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to develop and implement individualized care plans. The RN will also provide education and support to patients and their families.
Responsibilities:
- Assess and monitor patients' conditions and vital signs, including those who are critically ill or injured
- Administer medications, IV fluids, and other treatments as prescribed by the physician
- Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team, including physicians, respiratory therapists, social workers, and other healthcare professionals, to develop and implement individualized care plans
- Provide education and support to patients and their families about their condition and treatment options
- Document all patient care and interventions accurately and timely in the electronic medical record
- Respond quickly and appropriately to changes in patients' conditions or emergencies
- Advocate for patients and their families, ensuring that their needs and preferences are heard and addressed
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives to improve patient outcomes and enhance the efficiency of the trauma center
- Maintain current knowledge and skills through continuing education and professional development activities
Qualifications:
- Must be a registered nurse with a current license to practice in the state
- BSN or higher degree preferred
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in an acute care setting, with experience in trauma or critical care preferred
- Current BLS, ACLS, and PALS certification required
- Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work effectively as a member of a collaborative interdisciplinary team
- Demonstrated commitment to professional development and continuing education
Physical Demands:
The RN - Trauma will be required to stand and walk for extended periods, as well as lift and position patients. The RN must have the ability to use fine motor skills, such as administering medications and IV fluids, and the ability to hear and communicate with patients and their families.
Working Conditions:
The RN - Trauma will work in a fast-paced and high-stress environment, with exposure to blood and other bodily fluids. The RN must be able to respond quickly and appropriately to emergencies and changes in patients' conditions. Shift work, including nights, weekends, and holidays, is required.
