Overview

Assure day-to-day quality operations of rest areas as per contract specifications.

Responsibilities

1. This position requires that the employee read, write, speak and comprehend the English language.

2. This position requires the employee to operate a computer and required software effectively and efficiently including typing, navigation, and interpretation of electronic data.

3. Train rest area staff in maintenance and repair work.

4. Assist Water Technician in operation and maintenance all water and wastewater systems operated by Tresco for the New Mexico Department of Transportation.

a. Establish and implement maintenance programs for water and wastewater systems at all rest areas and other sites within District I.

b. Take compliance samples for water and wastewater permits.

c. Accurately prepare and maintain proper water and wastewater permit records.

d. Permit and establish disinfection systems for all water systems.

e. Work to establish Liquid Waste Permits for all septic systems to bring all sites into compliance with State and EPA requirements.

f. Rehabilitate all wells to the best condition possible.

g. Develop water conservation where possible.

h. Where possible, plan, design, permit and implement water reclamation projects to reuse wastewater in toilets and irrigation.

i. Assure security of all water and wastewater systems.

j. Coordinate and/or repair water and wastewater systems.

k. Maintain and control all chemicals used for water and wastewater treatment.

l. Renovate and maintain storage tanks and metering systems.

m. Renovate and maintain water level systems.

n. Repair and/or replace any component of systems on an as-needed basis to keep systems operating properly.

o. Assist Repair foreman in needed repairs.

p. Assist with and make well repairs, replace pressure tanks, switches, gauges and relays. Clean or replace electrode probes and wiring. Dig ditches, repair and replace pipe and fittings and wiring. Prepare estimates for work projects, submit requisitions or go to vendors to order and pick up the parts and materials.

q. Repair, replace and paint drinking fountains. Dig ditches, repair and replace pipe and fittings and wiring. Draw as built blueprints of drawings.

r. Repair and / or replace water pumps for water fountain, irrigation systems and water systems.

s. Repair and / or replace Rain bird valves, sprinkler systems and timers. Dig ditches and repair / or replace pipe, fittings and wiring.

t. Assist with septic tank repairs. Repair / or replace septic tank covers and submersible pumps in septic systems. Unplug sewer lines and dig ditches and / or repair pipes and fittings.

5. Make all necessary repairs at the rest areas.

6. Assure all rest area repairs are done in a timely manner.

a) Assist with and make well repairs, replace pressure tanks, switches, gages and relays, up to Plumber Journeyman-level competency. Clean or replace electrode probes and wiring up to Electrical Journeyman-level competency. Dig ditches, repair and replace pipe and fittings and wiring. Prepare estimates for work projects, submit requisitions or go to vendors to order and pick up the parts and materials.

b) Repair and replace Micropore and Sloan plumbing systems, commodes, sinks, urinals, faucets, sensors, timers, air-sequence valves, vacuum breaker, bleed off, assembly, flush activator, repair and replace hoppers and air cylinder; repair and replace pipe fittings and air lines up to Plumber Journeyman-level competency

c) Maintain and clean compressor. Change oil and belts. Replace head, motor and wiring.

d) Repair, replace and paint drinking fountains, up to Plumber Journeyman-level competency. Dig ditches, repair and replace pipe and fittings and wiring. Annotate “As Built” blueprints of projects.

e) Repair and/or replace water pumps for water fountain, irrigation systems and water systems, up to Plumber Journeyman-level competency

f) Repair and /or replace Rain Bird valves, sprinkles systems and timers; dig ditches and repair/or replace pipe, fittings and wiring, up to Plumber Journeyman-level competency

g) Assist with septic tank repairs. Repair/or replace septic tank covers and submersible pumps in septic systems. Unplug sewer lines and dig ditches and/or repair pipes and fittings.

h) Electrical repair of inside light fixtures switches and ballast. Repair and replace conduit, junction boxes, outlets, panel boxes, wiring, circuit breakers, hand dryers, electrical heaters and thermostat. Repair and replace overhead yard lights and outside shelter lights. Coordinate with New Mexico Department of Transportation Personnel for the use of a bucket truck. Replace transformers. Light bulbs, wiring and wire nuts. Repairs up to Electrical Journeyman-level competency

i) Repair and maintain HVAC and heat pumps, replace and/or repair thermostat, blower motor, fan motor, circuit boards, relays, capacitors, filters, pumps and fuses.

j) Repair and replace stainless steel rest room stall walls, door locks, hinges, and floor and wall mounting hardware, toilet paper dispensers, mirrors, trash cans, napkin dispensers and disposal can.

k) Stucco repair and patching. Painting buildings and shelters inside and outside. Repair and paint signs. Repair and paint historical marker signs. Layout parking lines and paint traffic strips and markings.

l) Cement repair to include building and repair of sidewalks, patio, shelter floors, trashcans pads, post anchors, handicapped ramps, curbs and gutter, and repair and replace brick on walls and shelters.

m) Mowing using tractor and hand mowers. Mowing medians and roadway, shoulders, septic tank and leach line areas, shelter and grounds area. Service tractor, greasing and lubing, checking and maintaining oil and/or fluid levels.

n) Cable fence repair and replacement. Alignment of and digging post holes. Repair and replacement of post wire, staples, nails, and tie wire.

o) Using carpentry skills repair shelters, boardwalks, handrails, roofing, picnic tables and benches. Repair show cases, counters, door and doorframes, shelves, workbenches and closets.

7. Meet with DOT personnel when necessary.

8. Assure that assigned vehicle is services and maintained on a regular basis.

9. Notify Maintenance Facilities Program Manager Assistant of any maintenance and/or repair problems.

10. Accept and implement special projects as assigned by supervisor.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES. Other job-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education. Bachelor’s degree in related field and one year experience in facilities operations and management or a combination of education and experience in facilities operations and management totaling five years.

Experience. High school/GED

Licenses/Certifications. Valid driver’s license.

Other (e.g., post-offer drug screen, background check, driver’s license record, etc.). All employees must undergo a driver’s license record check; classified employees must pass a background check.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED BY THE POSITION:

1. Bilingual skills are not required but are beneficial.

2. Assist public when necessary

3. Participate in on going staff development.

4. Familiar with State of New Mexico contract for repair and maintenance.

5. Responsible for maintaining safe working environment.

6. Detail and task oriented

7. Familiarity with maintaining compliance with contract and legal requirements.

8. Self-starter and problem solver with experience in diagnosing and repair of HVAC, electrical and electronic controls.

9. Ability to work independently.

10. Strong diagnostic skills.

11. Read free hand sketches for work to be performed.

12. Read and interpret blueprints

13. Ability to drive trucks up to 26,000 BVM, with a trailer.

14. Ability to operate man lift platform.

15. Ability to manage multiple priorities.

Rate of Pay: $14 - $17/hr DOE

Hours: Monday – Friday, 8:00 am – 5:00 pm
