HJF is seeking a Research Associate II or III for the psycho/social/spiritual directorate to conduct research and program evaluation in collaboration with other scientific and technical staff. Exercises technical discretion in the execution of research studies and in the interpretation and dissemination of research findings into academic, educational, end-user, and policy related products. Contributes to the development of the team’s research portfolio and project strategies. Provides training and guidance for lower level Research Associates, interns, and team members appropriate to their areas of expertise.


This position will be in support of Consortium for Health and Military Performance (CHAMP) located in Bethesda, MD.

Responsibilities:
  • Perform and manage complex qualitative and mixed methods data collection and analysis efforts to support research and program evaluation projects, developing and implementing projects from proposal development through delivery of final product/results dissemination. This will include provide subject matter expertise in both research methodologies and formal areas of training (e.g. psychological, social, spiritual fitness).
  • Manage and assist in the dissemination of information and products through multiple channels and sectors to include: formal academic papers for publication, formal academic presentations, informal presentations, developing educational materials and tools and products for networking, reports, and trainings.
  • Provide research and subject matter expertise in formulating and building new research proposals and projects, to include: strategic planning and development of team research portfolio interests and lines of effort, conducting rapid literature reviews, networking with potential collaborators and funders, examining current team research efforts for common trends and future research areas of interest.
  • Support team in developing organizational systems and tools to track and monitor project status and manage portfolio and products. This includes managing documentation of current and new procedures and protocols for sample selection, data collection, data analysis, and dissemination.
  • Mentors, reviews, and supervises team members and interns as needed the planning, execution, and analysis of research efforts to include, but not limited to: how to organize data, how to conduct literature reviews and rapid assessments of the literature, qualitative research methodologies, and spirituality research.
  • May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. This may include attendance of and participation in required training for role.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of extremely complex qualitative research procedures.
  • Ability to meet deadlines of projects.
  • Good communication and analytical skills.

Supervisory Responsibilities


  • Assigned Lead: May recommend the following: employee hiring, disciplinary action, and starting salaries; provide input on employee performance evaluations.
Qualifications:

Work Environment

  • This position will take place primarily in a laboratory and/or clinical setting.

Education and Experience


Level II

  • Master's Degree required.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years experience required.

Level III

  • Master's Degree required.
  • Minimum of 6-8 years experience required.

Some positions or sites may require that the incumbent be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. Proof of vaccination may be required.
