Research Nurse (Healthcare-Associated Infections and Antimicrobial Use Prevalence Survey)
Job description
The California Emerging Infections Program (CEIP) is a program administered by Heluna Health. It is one of ten EIP sites nationwide, which serve as a national resource for surveillance, prevention, and control of emerging infectious diseases. CEIP functions under a cooperative agreement with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and is a collaborative effort involving the California Department of Public Health (CDPH), the University of California, Berkeley, School of Public Health, and several local health departments.
The Research Nurse will assist in the implementation and completion of Phase 5 of the CEIP’s Healthcare-Associated Infections and Antimicrobial Use Prevalence Survey. Duties will include, but are not limited to, hospital recruitment, medical chart abstraction, data entry, and submission of reports to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The Research Nurse will also interact with hospital infection control departments regarding Phase 5 of the Prevalence Survey—ensuring necessary day of survey coordination and follow-up. Other duties will include managing required study IRB submissions, and coordinating all activities related to the Prevalence Survey and other HAI activities as needed.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Responsible for Phase 5 of the CEIP’s Healthcare-Associated Infections and Antimicrobial Use Prevalence Survey. This includes hospital recruitment, survey organization and training.
- Under the direction of the Health Program Manager and Principal Investigator, they will serve as a member of the HAI research team to implement new research protocols and follow them through to completion. Reported results will be used for authorship/co-authorship in professional publications, delivering presentations to the scientific community, and may be used as the basis for guideline development.
- Communicate project activities, including both multi- and single site protocol(s), to local project staff, co-directors, and CDC project coordinators and directors.
- Submit timely reports to CDC and others institutions as needed.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Experience
- BSN or degree in other health-related field required. Post-graduate courses in Epidemiology or Infection Control preferred.
- 1-2 years of clinical nursing experience required. Recent experience in hospital infection control preferred.
- Certification of Infection Control preferred.
- Possess excellent research, organizational, communication, and educational skills as well as the ability to apply and adapt them to various audiences and settings.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated ability work in a multi-disciplinary team environment
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
- Experience with preparation of applications to human subjects protection committee desired.
