Job Description
The Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) Facility at the University of Missouri–Columbia (MU) is searching for a qualified Research Scientist with experience preparing and analyzing molecules using NMR spectroscopy. Working in a core facility requires the candidate to process samples for MU and external clients and provide them with interpreted and validated data along with detailed reports. The candidate must be able to communicate with diverse groups of scientists that have a range of NMR experience.
Duties and Responsibilities include:
- Plan and execute experiments using SOPs
- Develop and implement novel NMR analyses
- Maintain and troubleshoot NMR systems
- Ensure data quality by performing routine assessment and calibration of spectrometers following pre-defined SOPs
- Prepare samples, analyze and interpret data
- Prepare result reports and meet with users to discuss the results
- Contribute to scientific manuscripts and grant applications
- Train new users in the operation of the spectrometers
- Engage in activities and meetings to promote the NMR Facility
The candidate’s research specialization / experience MUST be in NMR. Experience and a record of accomplishment in NMR via peer-reviewed publications is highly desirable. The applicant must be self-motivated, methodical, detail-oriented, and possess excellent oral and written skills. The applicant must be interested in participating in a collaborative environment. Experience or willingness to learn development and validation of NMR assays and procedures is a plus for the position.
This position requires consistent, onsite attendance.
Salary
$48,900 - $68,815
Grade: GGS 10

Shift
Monday thru Friday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Minimum Qualifications
A Bachelor's degree in related/ relevant area and at least 3 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.
Preferred Qualifications
M.S. degree with at least four years of experience in NMR, NMR spectrometer service experience is considered a plus.
