Job description
Essential Functions:
Oversee a team of undergraduate students to investigate the use of Galectin -1 as a protein therapy for Limb Girdle Muscular Dystrophy. Dose mice and perform functional measurements on mice receiving treatment for muscular dystrophy. Organize a team of undergraduates to help perform lab duties and experiments. Do histological, immunofluorescence staining, blood draws, tissue collection, western blot analysis and preparation of samples for deuterium kinetic proteomic analysis and any other biochemical assays required to answer scientific questions connected to the project.
Applicant will work closely with the primary investigator of the lab to lead a team of 5-7 undergraduates and one graduate student in the exploration of a protein therapy for muscular dystrophy. The applicant will be required to perform lab duties as outlined with the primary investigator. These will include conducting experiments and quantifying data that has already been conducted. They will communicate with undergraduates about the tasks they will perform, check on their progress and report back to the PI about progress several times a week. They will also attend and hold small group lab meeting and give PowerPoint presentations as needed.
Education and Experience:
Minimum: Bachelor of Science degree in biomedical sciences, life sciences, biology or biochemistry. 2-3 years of lab experience with knowledge of cell culture, muscular dystrophy animal models, histology and biochemical assays are required.
Skills/Knowledge: Be able to perform functional assay in animal studies and perform micro-CT scans. Be familiar with and be able to use the following softward: MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel, GraphPad Prism and CTAnalyze
