Position Title: Residential Assistant
Supervisory Responsibilities: None
Reports to: Weekday & Weekend Supervisor
FLSA Classification: Non-Exempt
Position Summary: The Residential Assistant provides direct support services to residents and oversees the daily operations of the shelter program. These are On Call positions for staff coverage in the event of gaps in scheduling. Grassroots Crisis on call positions must be able to work a mandatory minimum of 2 shifts per month in order to remain as active employment status.

Shifts Available:
Weekend Overnight, Evening and Day Hours:
12:00am - 8:00am
4:00pm - 12:00am
8:00am - 4:00pm
Primary Responsibilities:
· Provides direct support services to shelter residents
· Oversees resident activities
· Accepts donations from the community
· Documents resident activities and issues for follow up in the shelter log
· Ensures that residents have needed supplies
· Reconciled the petty cash at the beginning and the end of the shift
· Performs regular security checks throughout the building
· Assists with shelter intakes
· Facilitates client carrying out their chores
Secondary Responsibilities:
· Assists with training and orientation of new staff
· Assists in the serving of meals and clean-up after meals as needed
· Participates on special committees as requested by the supervisor or Executive Director
· Other duties as assigned
Agency-wide Responsibilities
· Participates in supervision, in-service training, and staff meetings
· Maintains good working relationships with co-workers and positively contributes to group morale
· Completes all administrative duties including time sheets, leave requests, etc.
· Participates in special task forces, committees, or special projects as needed
· Uses appropriate channels of communication to resolve conflicts with other staff
· Interacts with staff, clients, and visitors in a professional and courteous manner
Education and Experience:
· AA degree and 1 year of experience in human services or related field required
· Possession of a valid driver’s license required
· Knowledge of homelessness issues a plus
Skills and Abilities:
· Ability to work as a team member with other staff
· Positive communications skills
· Supportive counseling skills
· Conflict resolution skills
· Ability to make reasonable decisions in crisis situations
Work Conditions:
· RAs share office and desk space.
· Holiday coverage may be required.
· Hours can vary depending on coverage needed.
· Overnight travel is not required.
