JG Development carpenters ensure safe, high quality construction of new and remodeled custom homes and local business, community and non profit organizations. Carpenters will specialize in commercial or residential work but have the opportunity to gain experience in both. Tasks range from demolition to framing and finish work and may include timber framing. Ideal candidates will have two years of relevant experience; comprehensive training is available.

Our team of about 50 employees operates out of offices in Blue Mounds and downtown Madison, Wisconsin. Essential Function of the Position:

Must be physically fit to perform manual labor in all types of environments and conditions, including heavy lifting (50 lbs.). Regularly required to stand, must be able to use hands to fingers, hand or feel and verbally communicate and listen. Other physical requirements include sitting, walking, climbing or balancing and stooping, kneeling, crouching or crawling.

Responsibilities:

• Measure and mark cutting lines on materials using a ruler, pencil, chalk and marking gauge;
• Shape or cut materials to specified measurements, using hand tools, machines or power saws;
• Install structures or fixtures such as windows, frames, flooring, trim or hardware, using carpenters’ hand or power tools;
• Study specifications in blueprints, sketches, or building plans to prepare project layout and determine dimensions and materials required;
• Perform standards of workmanship that meet the projects requirements that are consistent with industry best-practice;
• Work with the crew to accomplish all tasks;
• Maintain tools, cords and equipment so that they are kept in good working order and are safe for use;
• Maintain the work area(s) in a clean and orderly manner on a continuous basis;
• Ensure Customer Satisfaction;
• Maintain top level quality of all aspects of projects as it relates to field production.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Experience in residential or commercial construction and remodeling trades, practice, procedures, and techniques;
• Knowledge of how to operate tools and equipment; including electric and pneumatic hand tools, lifts, vehicles and trailers;
• Knowledge of building codes, standard materials and use;
• Ability to demonstrate strong customer service skills, problem-solving and people skills;
• Self-motivation and the ability to work effectively under minimum of supervision;
• Ability to multi-task efficiently, work in a fast-paced environment on multiple projects, with a high accuracy in work and strong attention to detail;
• Valid driver’s license with proof of insurability is required;
• The ability to travel if requested;
• Successful completion of background check.
