Position Overview

Under immediate supervision for a period of three to eighteen months, participates in an agency-sponsored instruction course on how to perform specialized functions in a unit engaged in the care, treatment, and development of students with disabilities at Illinois Center for Rehabilitation & Education-Roosevelt (ICRE- R) on an assigned shift. Instructs students in recreational, occupational, and daily living activities as part of the training program. Works closely and coordinates with supervisory staff as well as other professional staff in making effective treatment programs for each student. Receives ongoing training on policies, procedures, care, and school philosophies. Travels in performance of duties.

Job Responsibilities

  • For a period of three to eighteen months, participates in an agency-sponsored instruction course on how to perform specialized functions in a unit engaged in the care, treatment, and development of students with disabilities at Illinois Center for Rehabilitation & Education-Roosevelt (ICRE- R) on an assigned shift.
  • Receives on-going supervision and training in the care of students with disabilities.
  • Monitors students during free-time activities and leisure.
  • Communicates pertinent information concerning each student, both verbally and written. Provides periodic summaries of each student's progress.
  • Carries out prescribed medical and nursing orders including assigned therapy and dietary orders.
  • Participates in preparation of roommate assignments, disciplinary action, unit rules and guidelines, etc.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires knowledges, skills, and mental development equivalent to an A.A. degree in childcare, sociology, or human services

OR

Requires two (2) years of experience in the care and supervision of children as could be gained in a day care facility or a Head Start Program.

Conditions of Employment

  • Requires ability to travel.
  • Requires ability to pass the IDHS background check.
  • Requires ability to pass a drug screen for drugs prohibited from recreational use under Illinois Law.

Work Hours: Mon - Wed, 8:15pm - 6:15am; Thurs, 8:45pm - 6:15am
