***Employee will be assigned to work in the following counties: Richland, Sumter, Lee, Darlington, Florence, Kershaw, Lancaster, Chesterfield, Marlboro, Marion, Dillon, Georgetown, and Horry County and may also be required to travel throughout the state as needed***

Responsibilities of a Compliance Auditor

  • Establishes and maintains a current list of assigned entities. Ensures assigned entities are audited or inspected with required frequency.
  • Conducts audits and/or inspects commercial and non-commercial driver training schools, commercial and non-commercial third-party testers, motor vehicle dealers, wholesalers, auto auctions, transporters, to verify compliance with laws, regulations, and department policies.
  • Conducts or assists with audits and investigations outside of assigned entities when needed.
  • Investigates complaints/offenses involving commercial driver training schools and commercial third-party testers.
  • Initiates requests for sanctions and/or assistance to SLED or other agencies. Attends court/hearings as required or requested.
  • Serves as a subject matter expert for commercial driver training schools and commercial third-party testers. Educates schools and company owners, management, or officers on program requirements.
  • Responds to inquiries from schools, testers, the public, customers, colleagues, and other agencies.
  • Conducts pre-inspections, initial inspections, and follow-up inspections of commercial and non-commercial driver training schools, commercial and non-commercial third-party testers, dealer license applicants/licensees.
  • Conducts vehicle inspections and route reviews for commercial and non-commercial driver training schools and third-party testers. Conducts salvage and rebuilt vehicle inspections and VIN inspections..
  • Administers written tests to new and renewal applicants for Driver Training Instructor Certification.
  • Performs various administrative duties. Maintains vehicle, computer, and other equipment.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by supervisors.
  • Completes or assists with special projects as assigned.
  • Attends training and staff meetings as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

A high school diploma and relevant work experience. A bachelor's degree may be substituted for the required work experience.

Additional Requirements

  • Employee must be knowledgeable of the laws, rules, regulations, standards, principles, practices, and techniques related to commercial drivers licensing, commercial driver training schools, and driver license examinations. Employee must have the ability to conduct investigations, analyze facts, and reach sound conclusions.
  • Employee must have the ability to present clear, concise, and comprehensive oral and written reports.
  • Must have the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the general public.
  • Employee must be proficient with personal computers including Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, Access, and Outlook).
  • Employee receives guidance from supervisor/team lead but generally works independently and has the latitude for independent decision making.
  • The assigned work area is Richland, Sumter, Lee, Darlington, Florence, Kershaw, Lancaster, Chesterfield, Marlboro, Marion, Dillon, Georgetown, and Horry counties and may work anywhere in the state as needed.
  • Must reside in Richland, Sumter, Darlington, Florence, Lee, or Kershaw County.
  • This position is subject to overnight state-wide travel.
  • Normal work hours are M-F 8:30 am to 5:00 pm but may require working outside normal work hours and on weekends.
