Lockheed Martin Space is looking for a senior-level Systems Engineer to help lead the Safety Program for the human-rated Orion Program. This exciting opportunity in the human space flight line-of-business (LOB) will allow you to play an integral part in ensuring the safety of our astronauts and missions, as we take the next step in human space flight.
In this role, you will use your technical and leadership expertise to ensure that the hardware and software designs comply with safety requirements and manage safety deliverables. This role will require you to review, track, and assess hardware and software changes for hazard impacts. Also, it will require you to develop and maintain hazard analyses, including objective evidence.
In this Systems Engineer position, your responsibilities may include, but not limited to:

Work Schedules: Lockheed Martin supports a variety of alternate work schedules that provide additional flexibility to our employees. Schedules range from standard 40 hours over a five day work week while others may be condensed. These condensed schedules provide employees with additional time away from the office and are in addition to our Paid Time off benefits.
Schedule for this Position: 9x80 every other Friday off
Pay Rate:
The annual base salary range for this position in Colorado or Washington is $118,100 - $226,400. Please note that the salary information is a general guideline only. Lockheed Martin considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/ training, key skills as well as market and business considerations when extending an offer.
Benefits offered: Medical, Dental, Vision, Life Insurance, Short-Term Disability, Long-Term Disability, 401(k) match, Flexible Spending Accounts, EAP, Education Assistance, Parental Leave, Paid time off, and Holidays.
(Washington state applicants only) Non-represented full time employees: accrue 10 hours per month of Paid Time Off (PTO); receive 40 hours of Granted PTO annually for incidental absences; receive at least 90 hours for holidays. Represented full time employees accrue 6.67 hours of PTO per month; accrue up to 52 hours of sick leave annually; receive at least 96 hours for holidays. PTO is prorated based on hours worked and start date during the calendar year.
This position is incentive plan eligible.

In this Systems Engineer position, your responsibilities may include, but not limited to:
- Develop safety documents as required to support customer, federal range, and test/operational requirements
- Prepare presentations and participate in Design Reviews, Test Readiness Reviews (TRRs), Technical Interchange Meetings (TIMs), various Working Groups (WGs), and safety review meetings.
- Review and provide input into design artifacts and test procedures, ensuring that they adhere to program safety requirements.
- Collaborate with NASA customers and support NASA safety review panels
Our ideal candidate in someone with a strong background and experience working with the NASA safety customer, especially in the area of human space flight.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college/university in an engineering or related discipline.
- Knowledge/experience in systems engineering with strong technical skills in the design life cycle and requirements/verification life cycle.
- Experience in leading, guiding, and mentoring a talented team of engineers.
- Knowledge/experience in planning staffing, developing integrated master schedules (IMS), developing Basis of Estimates (BOEs), responding to Requests for Proposals (RFPs), and developing Rough Orders of Magnitude (ROMs) as needed.
- Master's degree in engineering or related discipline.
- Experience in system safety engineering life cycle (i.e. cradle to grave) with strong technical skills identifying safety requirements, performing hazard analyses, developing fault tree analyses, and making risk informed decisions.
- Understanding of incident investigations, root cause,
- Understanding of NASA's Safety and Engineering Review Panel (SERP) process. Knowledge/experience in coordinating with NASA customers, especially in the area of human spaceflight, multi-disciplines of engineering, and management.
