THE ROLE
The purpose of this job is to optimize safe extraction of materials at the Nyrstar Tennessee Mine operation. Mechanical Scaling is a form of ground control involving the removal of loose rock from the back, ribs, and face by using mechanical equipment (a machine designed for the task).
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

Plans and prepares for ground control provision

Inspects and assesses site conditions to determine scaling requirements and starting point

Identifies, address and report potential risks and hazards
-
Inspects and assesses appropriateness of conducting mechanical scaling
-
Erects barricades to prevent unauthorized access if necessary
-
Uses dust suppression methods
-
Ensures equipment is stabilized and in the correct position.

Ensures services (ventilation and water) are connected according to site procedures

Performs scaling according to site procedures
-
Performs proper shut down procedures for equipment

Performs housekeeping activities

Able to operate mechanical scaling equipment

Able to recognize bad ground
-
Maintain and lubricate rig per set schedule

Able to perform service maintenance
QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE:

1-2 years’ experience in mining
-
Experience in mine specific equipment
-
Demonstrated competence in ground control
-
Preferred knowledge of mining regulation and statutory responsibilities
