    Job Title : Online Learning Counselor 1.0 FTE

    General Definition of Work:
    The Online Learning Counselor will create a positive online environment and support program fostering student success in accordance with Falcons Online Academy mission. The online learning counselor will provide support for online learning students , instruct and access students through an online learning management system; perform all related reporting duties; and communicate with students, parents and other staff accordingly. Location of position will be in-person at Faribault High School. This position commences with the 2023-24 School Year on August 21, 2023.

    Essential Functions:
    • Communicate and interact regularly with students regarding questions, course progress, and any other general instructional needs.
    • Respond to individual student needs with counseling, consultation and referral services.
    • Counsels students individually and in small groups for specifically identified needs as endorsed by recognized curriculum.
    • Help students plan and schedule classes for graduation.
    • Assist the principal and/or the program coordinator in setting teachers schedules in response to students' needs and desires.
    • Monitors student academic progress and communicates with parents on current achievements.
    • Coordinates and administers various testing programs; interprets test results for students, parents and administrators.
    • Initiates assembles and maintains accurate cumulative records and transcripts for students and protects their confidentiality.
    • Help students develop skills in career decision-making including analyzing relationships between their own interests, abilities, values and the working world.
    • Works with students to develop a plan for their post-secondary education by looking at their intended majors and school preferences and provides students with information on financing their intended program.
    • Consults with teachers to help them become more effective in dealing with student needs.
    • Maintain accurate and complete student records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulations in a timely and confidential manner.
    • Collect, analyze and maintain data on individual student achievement.
    • Develop and maintain constructive and cooperative working relationships with building and district staff as needed.
    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
    • Ability and commitment to work with diverse students and staff.
    • Effective and strong collaboration skills.
    • Constructive communication skills with students, parents/guardians and team members.
    • Excellent oral, writing and editing skills.
    • Strong drive and self-motivated.
    • Strong interpersonal skills and experience working with youth.
    • Knowledgeable about counseling practice in order to successfully facilitate the supportive environment, manage time, communications, and record keeping.
    • Ability to remain current in curricular area and in counseling practices.
    • Knowledgeable about student electronic database and grading software.
    • Knowledgeable about using technology to support instruction and enhance student learning.
    Education and Experience:
    • Masters Degree in school counseling.
    • Experience developing and sustaining collaborative relationships with students.
    • Experience developing curriculum materials preferred but not required.
    • Experience in a Learning Management System (Edgenuity, Schoology, SeeSaw, Moodle, Blackboard) preferred but not required.
    • Experience teaching and assessing student progress online preferred, but not required.
    Compensation & Benefits
    Salary compliments education and experience according to the Faribault Education Association Master Contract.
