Job description

Immediate hiring for a Preschool Nurse for an early learning center that includes Head Start to assist with evaluating, developing, and maintaining systems to enhance PSFC’s Health and Nutrition Services. The Preschool Nurse is responsible for development, implementation and coordination of the health component according to the Agency and Head Start Performance Standards. Conduct health screenings for Early Head Start and Head Start participants including well child checks, vaccinations, hearing, vision, blood pressure, lead and oral screening. Collect and enter screenings into the program’s record keeping system.

Monitor children’s health records. Ensure families link with an on-going system of health care, assist parents in the selection of a health care provider, as needed. Promote health and safety practices in the program and ensure staff follow proper protocols. Provide notifications and education as necessary. Review necessary medical/dental care plans. Counsel families about health issues as they arise. Maintain confidentiality of program participants and follow Program and Agency standards and policies.

Required:

Bachelor’s Degree in Health or Human Services or two years of college course work in a related field such as health/social services in conjunction with experience.

Two years experience and knowledge in child and family health and working with low income adults in Social Services or Adult Education

Good verbal and written communication skills, basic math skills, and ability to relate to health professionals.
