Red Butte Garden is seeking a passionate and skilled environmental and science education manager for the School Programs team. We bring botany-based, science education focused on Utah’s science standards (SEEd) to K-12 students and teachers across the state of Utah. We connect people with plants and increase scientific literacy while utilizing best practices in science and environmental education. Our skilled and passionate staff work to create and facilitate engaging, accurate, and effective experiences that are accessible and relatable to all Utah students and teachers. Long-term, we want to become an industry leader in providing and facilitating quality, engaging, effective, and experiential environmental and science education. We need an experienced, adaptable, detail-oriented scientist and educator who excels at creating a positive work environment and managing the details of a dynamic, multi-faceted program with many stakeholders.

Responsibilities
- Oversee our on-site field trips, and state-wide, off-site classroom visits, teacher resources, teacher workshops, virtual resources, and outreach programming
- Ensure that all mandated requirements for programming and operations are followed (iSEE, USBE, Garden, University, grants, etc.)
- Provide equitable and accessible programming to students and teachers throughout the state utilizing principals of diversity, equity, and inclusion
- Implement and train staff, volunteers, and teachers in science and environmental education best practices
- Ensure scientific accuracy in programming
- Recruit, hire, train, coach, and schedule of staff and volunteers
- Manage staff timecards, hours, and approval
- Foster a positive work environment
- Manage numeric and narrative program data that is accurate and quickly accessible
- Develop and implement state-wide travel schedules
- Budget and assist in financial purchasing, reporting, and reconciliation
- Collaborate with other Garden departments and teams in sharing resources and staff, working on grants, reporting, and creating narratives
- Strategize and manage the long-term growth of School Programs
- Develop and deliver programming content
- Represent the Garden to iSEE, USBE, the Utah Legislature, schools, and the community
- Collaborate and build relationships with other organizations and community partners
- Develop and facilitate professional development opportunities for staff
- Other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in a related area or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for two years of related work experience). Four to six years of progressively more responsible management experience. Background knowledge of hiring department’s area of specialization in order to analyze, plan and draw conclusions for recommendations to superiors. Demonstrated leadership skills in planning and directing employees and processes in order to effectively monitor and develop subordinates and to ensure the smooth operation of department. Completion of provided supervisory training within one year of employment may be required. Master’s degree in a related area may be preferred.

- Understanding of Utah’s SEEd or NGSS science standards.
- Skill in project management and logistics.
- Ability to work independently and to analyze and make decisions related to program content.
- Strong coordination and organizational skills required to effectively prioritize conflicting deadlines.
- Demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills are also required.
- An interest in plants demonstrated either by education or past employment.
- Must be flexible and a team player. Some travel is required. Ability to drive truck/state vehicle.
