Campus Safety and Security Officer

Shift Schedules: Full-time year-round position, 40 hours/week, non-exempt. Hours are 9:30 am to 6:00 pm.

Supervisors: Director of Safety and Security/School Marshal

Qualifications: Minimum of a high school diploma or its equivalent and a minimum of two years experience in a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience. Background as a first responder (fire/police/EMS) preferred. Must be able to deal with unexpected challenges throughout the workday, possess excellent critical decision-making skills, and be able to effectively communicate with adults and adolescents. Must have an active driver’s license. A criminal background check will be completed and submitted to Pinkerton Academy for review.

Skills: Other skills which the applicant must possess include: basic computer skills with focus on report writing, be able to operate basic camera monitoring equipment, portable radio operation, and he/she should be capable of walking approx. 4 miles a day to include stairs and hills in all types of weather conditions. First Aid and CPR/AED training will be provided.

Work Expectations: ● Patrol all Pinkerton Academy buildings and grounds to ensure only authorized staff, visitors, and students are on campus. ● Enforce relevant Pinkerton Academy Rules and Regulations found in the Employee Handbook. Enforce parking rules on campus. Assist visitors with campus navigation, sign in, and parking procedures. ● Security officers will be assigned traffic control positions during school days and special events. This work includes directing traffic in all weather conditions both day and night. Both vehicular traffic and pedestrian traffic control. ● Ensure the campus is secure during both business hours and after hours. Check interior and exterior of facilities for open doors/windows, boiler/fire extinguisher checks, and be prepared to notify the appropriate supervisor or agency depending on the noted issue. ● Security Officers are expected to be professional and polite to all they come in contact with to include students, staff, visitors, vendors, and parents. Outreach to include a cordial conversation with those listed is expected of our security officers. This creates relationships within our community and fosters confidence in our team’s ability to provide the best possible service. JD- Safety and Security Officer 4/2021 ● Security officers assist staff with student escorts, searches, and offer any related assistance throughout the day. May be asked to stand by with an administrator to ensure there are no problems with students. ● Operation of a security vehicle on campus and off-campus. This could include a pickup truck or a golf cart. ● Communicate situations professionally by phone, in person, or radio especially when de-escalating students or visitors. ● Attend and participate in weekly team meetings. ● Adhere to all job expectations located in the Security Officer’s Handbook. ● Requirements and duties may change but will always support the Pinkerton Academy mission and community. ● Our security officers will carry out all other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Safety and Security/School Marshal.
