Overview:
We are seeking an Senior Accountant who will support the Cost, General Ledger, Capital, Inventory, Benefits and Tax Accounting functions within the Accounting Division of the Business Services Directorate at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL).
Major Duties/Responsibilities:
- Processing month-end and year-end closing functions
- Support the maintenance of the General Ledger accounts and Trial Balance master data and configuration
- Perform tasks related to the reconciliation of the General Ledger activity with information reported in the Standard Accounting and Reporting System (STARS) to DOE
- Prepare General Ledger account reconciliations
- Analyze accounting data and develop General Ledger entries
- Perform the ORNL/DOE Trial Balance Reconciliation process
- Preparation and analysis of 3rd and 4th quarter DOE reporting package components including financial statement footnotes
- Support SAP master data creation and maintenance
- Assist Business Operations, research, and operations staff with analysis and processing of costing and other accounting activity
- Perform functions supporting the Capital Accounting process
- Interface with DOE, Inspector General, internal, and external audit staff involved in financial statement audits and other requests for information
- Perform functions supporting the Benefits Accounting processes
- Perform functions supporting the accounting and reporting of state, and local sales and use taxes, and applicable federal and other business taxes in TN and other states
- Working knowledge of Isotope Accounting processes and reporting requirements
- Identify and remain compliant with financial laws and regulations
- Ability to become familiar with the ORNL Accounting system and external databases to proficiently perform required tasks
- Ensure compliance with environment, safety, health and quality program requirements
- Maintain strong commitment to the implementation and perpetuation of values and ethics
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance and a minimum of eight years of broad training and experience in accounting or finance.
- Demonstrated planning and organizing skills, ability to coordinate many projects simultaneously with changing priorities, and excellent problem analysis and resolution skills are required.
- Must possess the ability and willingness to work effectively as a member of a team, as well as independently, as required.
- Excellent attention to detail, well-developed written and oral communication skills, and an ability to conduct analysis of accounting information and effectively present impacts.
- Demonstrated ability to assess priorities, allocate workloads and meet conflicting deadlines.
- Requires proficiency in applying accounting principles, policies, and procedures, and knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
- Ability to interface with scientific and technical staff.
- Requires proficiency in Microsoft Office, spreadsheets, databases, and word processing software, such as Excel, Access, Word, and Adobe Acrobat.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Public accounting experience involving financial reporting and audit.
- Master's degree in accounting or finance with seven or more years of broad training and experience.
- CPA or candidate preferred.
- Knowledge of UT-Battelle, LLC and DOE accounting systems, policies, and procedures is desired.
- SAP experience is preferred.
