Job description

Summary

As our second lawyer, you can make a mark on our legal strategy as Trackonomy grows and scales worldwide. This is very much a generalist role, in which you're going to need to roll up your sleeves and quickly address legal issues that will change daily. The ideal candidate is someone with a strong transactional background who would also like to grow in other legal areas. It's important to me (as GC) that legal acts as a facilitator, so you must have a good grasp of business objectives, be comfortable with risk, and be ready to move quickly.

Job Details

  • Act as a trusted and strategic partner to Trackonomy's global go-to-market teams, providing business savvy advice on contracts, transactions, and initiatives.
  • Handle a wide range of commercial agreements. Our customer agreements require a particular amount of attention since they combine hardware, SaaS, and services. There will also be a steady flow of the usual NDAs, vendor agreements, etc.
  • Help operationalize legal, through templates, playbooks, and contracting tools.
  • Grow legal into more of a compliance function, and ensure that the company has the right controls and is following them.
  • Assist with the international aspects of our business, from sub-formation and maintenance to working with local counsel on issue spotting and resolution.
  • Work on other matters across the spectrum of HR and employment, procurement, privacy, corporate governance, infosec, and IP.
  • Keep up to speed with the rapidly changing industry and legal landscape and foresee issues that could impact the company.
  • Report to the General Counsel.

What's in It for You

This is a terrific opportunity to play a key role in supporting Trackonomy's rapid growth and in becoming an expert in all things IoT and hardware. I know it can be difficult to discern information about Trackonomy, but I'm eager to share our story with the right candidates (and in case it's a concern, we're very well funded with lots of runway). Due to the wide variety of matters you'll be handling, this role will be a great stepping stone for someone looking to eventually become GC, and I understand that what you're looking for is not just a role but an opportunity to gain different skills, to be challenged, to act as a sounding board, and to play a meaningful role in the company's evolution.

We're Excited if You Have

  • At least 6 years of legal experience, at both a firm and in-house (preferably related to hardware)
  • Demonstrated ability to take on something new and to get outside your comfort zone
  • A passion for technology and startup culture
  • Bachelor's degree and a JD from a U.S.-accredited law school
  • Licensed to practice law in CA
  • Willingness to come into our San Jose offices a few days a week
