SENIOR FINANCIAL ANALYST - OILFIELD SERVICES AND COMMERCIAL SUPPLY & TRADING COMPANY
Job description
Responsible for accounting and finance activities, including components of financial statements, financial forecasting, audits, internal controls, and valuation of business operations across Services group and Hedging/Trading portfolio. This position will be required to manage specialized work efficiently, with confidence and competence. Above average attention to details, concern for exact correctness of work, and a strong commitment to tasks completed on time, is a must for this role. This position is located at our Houston, Texas office.
Required Education / Certifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in accounting, Finance, or related field
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) credential is preferred
- MBA is preferred
Primary Responsibilities and Scope
- General finance/accounting functions
- Review, oversee and analyze daily, weekly, and monthly financial activity for various areas across both the Services and Commercial business units
- Prepare KPI scorecards, forecasts, and forecast-to-actual variance analyses
- Prepare in depth analysis of financial results
- Review general ledger accounts for integrity; including account analyses and reconciliations, to ensure financial statements are in compliance with GAAP
- Develop sensitivity analysis models and performance reports to understand the profit potential of new and existing businesses
- Provide guidance and support on business acquisitions, new transaction types, and how they should be reported
- Maintain current knowledge on relevant GAAP principles with a focus on the petroleum industry
- Ensure accounting systems and procedures are in compliance with company policies and acceptable accounting practices
- General business
- Develop process improvements giving consideration to effectiveness of internal controls and time efficiencies
- Provide financially supported advice to senior leadership on operational, strategic, and financial business matters
- Provide separate “set of eyes” in the Houston office independent of the front office
- Respond to ad-hoc queries from the Services and Commercial teams, as well as executive management
- Actively collaborate with internal stakeholders to optimize overall asset utilization and profitability.

- Internal controls
- Document and test control activities for revenue recognition, financial statements closing process, derivative trading, customer fixed price contract hedging, inventory hedging, and other
- Maintain, implement, enforce, and improve internal controls and associated documentation
- Maintain internal controls for hedging frameworks and develop tools and processes to better manage risk exposure
- Hedging / accounting for derivatives
- Develop and streamline the reporting of derivative positions for risk assessment and financial statement purposes
- Evaluate sales contracts against current market conditions, tracking results and documenting results
- Support contract negotiation process and mitigate risks
Required Experience
- Minimum of five (5) years of experience in progressive accounting and finance positions
- Previous “Big Four” public accounting experience is preferred
- Due diligence, M&A activity, and investment evaluation
- Tracking & measuring project and investment performance
- Working knowledge of financial statements and spreadsheets; preference for candidates with modeling experience
- Experience using ERP or accounting software
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Highly proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook)
- Knowledgeable of commonly used concepts, practices and procedures within accounting & finance
- Direct experience in the petroleum industry and/or trading operation (commodities)
- Experience with Sarbanes Oxley is preferred
- Strong personality able to work with the Houston team while recognizing the control role and independent responsibilities within the Atlas financial organization
