Your Specific Responsibilities:
Employee obtains and records client health screening information such as vital signs, height, and weight, assists in obtaining various laboratory specimens, assists clients to and from clinic rooms, maintains adequate stock of medical supplies according to par levels in clinic and clinic rooms, cleans clinic rooms after each client, assists clinicians in medical procedures, and assists clinicians and nurses in examining clients
Employee prepares rooms for assigned clinics and ensures that all equipment and supplies are readily accessible for the medical and nursing staff
Employee assists in clinics and anticipates needs to ensure that the clinic flows smoothly and efficiently and to enhance timely delivery of services
Employee inventories medical supplies in clinic and maintains a clean, organized, and orderly work environment
Employee performs phlebotomy for clinic clients as needed and functions as the primary backup for all lab duties in the absence of the Lab Tech III
Employee enters lab ordering information into the electronic ordering module as required
Employee reviews lab requisition forms to ensure accuracy and completeness and performs all necessary QA review prior to electronic transmittal and shipment
Employee accurately records results of tests performed and is responsible for reporting test results to the charge nurse in each clinic
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to assist clinicians with physical exam and medical procedures of clients and managing clinic flow
- Ability to organize a clinic or lab work setting and plan for clinic efficiency
- Able to obtain and record client health screening information
- Able to perform phlebotomy in accordance with safety and regulatory requirements
- Knowledge of receiving, preparing, and preserving specimens for testing and evaluation
- Ability to use and maintain equipment used in performance of duties
- Knowledge of work safety standards and compliance requirements
- Knowledge of medical supplies required for use within clinic
- Ability to communicate clearly and visibly in writing
- Knowledge of basic computer use and data recording
Qualifications:
Minimum –
- Valid Driver’s License
- Completion of a phlebotomy training program, OR certified phlebotomy certificate OR >1 year phlebotomy experience in a laboratory/ clinical setting.
- At least one year experience working with patients in a clinical setting OR equivalent coursework
- Incumbent may be required to work before, during and/or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an
emergency. Emergency duty required of the incumbent includes working in special needs or Red Cross shelters,
or performing other emergency duties including, but not limited to, responses to or threats involving any disaster
or threat of disaster, man-made or natural. - Completed a training program in patient care services (ex. CNA, MA, patient care technician) OR have at least one year experience working with patients in a clinical setting
Preferred –
- Phlebotomy certification or equivalent coursework.
- > 1 (one) year phlebotomy experience in a laboratory/clinical setting
- > 1 (one) year experience working with patients in a clinical setting
- High School Diploma/GED or higher
- Experience working in a laboratory setting
- Experience working with women’s health and reproductive health patients
- Experience labeling and handling laboratory specimens
- Experience working with and documenting in an/any Electronic Health Record
- Current State of Florida DOH employee
