Core Responsibilities:

  • Lean champion responsible for the development and delivery of the Site’s Lean / Manufacturing Excellence strategy

  • Facilitates and coaches the leadership team to develop, deliver and communicate the Site Strategy

  • Leads and facilitates Manufacturing Excellence strategy, aligned to site strategy and Operations Lean / digital strategy, including target setting and delivery of programs to improve process and culture.

  • Collaborates with colleagues across multiple functions to develop an integrated lean / digital strategy, driving continuous improvement. Sponsors programs to implement the strategy.

  • Leads, coaches and facilitates the application of the AZ supply system (AZSS) using Lean tools with the support of the regional Lean leads. These include: Lean training, simplification, strategy development & cascade, Lean maturity, business process management, Lean leadership capability, continuous improvement and flow, process mapping, process robustness, and problem solving (DMAIC, Practical Problem Solving, Level 0), and standard work (work instructions, resource balancing, Andon, etc.)

  • Develops Lean capability through training and coaching the leadership team with support from the Lean Regional Leads in accordance with the Lean Capability Framework.

  • Supports teams at all levels with training and ongoing support of improvement initiatives aligned to the AZSS, digital literacy, and the site / departmental objectives.

  • Builds employee capabilities in all aspects of Lean and engages all employees in the site OE initiatives. Sponsors and/or supports employee Lead teams to drive strategic capabilities associated with the AZ supply system.

  • Supports all teams at the site to achieve lean maturity and performance targets driving improvement in all scorecard / SQSCP targets as well as other key measures such as OEE and productivity. Accountable for the the Site Tier systems, metrics, and scorecard tracking and cascade.

  • Champion and coach of continuous improvement and Lean Leadership Culture. Sponsors Lean leadership, Genba and continuous improvement programs. Works with multiple teams and sites to develop and implement improvement opportunities. Implements recognition initiatives to reinforce the lean and continuous improvement culture. Provides technical leadership, mentoring, and project support as required to support Lean/6 Sigma initiatives.

  • Facilitates sharing of best practices and internal and external bench-marking.

  • Must work independently, as well as with all employees at the site and other OE professional across Operations. Will directly supervise OE professionals as assigned.

  • Comply with required standards with respect to documentation, 5S, cGMP, health and safety, regulatory legislative requirements and in accordance with AZ Values and Behaviors and all company policies

  • Minimal travel required (perhaps 10%)

Minimum Qualifications:

  • BS/BA in a technical or business related field.

  • Minimum of 8 years with process improvement

  • Minimum 2 years in a manufacturing environment.

  • The candidate must have worked at least 2 years as an OE professional with formal training and experience applying Lean methods.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • MBA

  • Lean Six Sigma Black Belt

  • Healthcare, pharmaceutical, medical device or biotechnology experience

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Able to manage ambiguous situations and have the ability to develop and sell an OE vision.

  • Be assertive, but also able to work in a collaborative environment with a proven ability to influence senior management.

  • Have a passion for identifying and eliminating waste and have the ability to influence others to do the same.

  • Understand the complexity in making changes in a highly regulated environment.

  • Able to drive employee and cultural development in the areas of OE.
