SUMMARY: The Senior Manufacturing Manager manages the manufacturing operations including scheduling and coordination of plant activities. Sets priorities for production schedules and helps coordinate manpower requirements. Role oversees the work efforts of plant area managers of all shifts. Person will help coordinate continuous improvement projects and lean initiatives to improve plant efficiency. This role has daily interactions with maintenance, shipping/receiving and quality departments.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Establishes objectives and metrics for the key performance indicators related to Safety, Quality, On time delivery, and Cost.
  • Owns and delivers the operational budget for functional area, including safety, productivity, financial and labor planning, and operational goals.
  • Responsible for providing strategic level/long-term planning (3, 6, and 12 months out) including labor planning, rate forecasting, and peak season planning.
  • Provide strong vision and direction for the team, while fostering bottoms-up participation in process improvement from all levels of the organization.
  • Ensures coordination of daily production schedules to meet or exceed customer delivery requirements. Capacity planning and other related activities will be necessary to ensure efficient work flow.
  • Coordinates plant headcount to match production requirements including over-time.
  • Responsible for providing strategic level/long-term planning (3, 6, and 12 months out) including labor planning, rate forecasting, and peak season planning.
  • Effectively leverages the Area Managers to solicit ideas and understand problems and challenges while providing direction with solutions-based actions.
  • Sets clear goals and expectations for Area Managers.
  • Measures performance, provides feedback, and holds leaders accountable.
  • Mentors and develops leaders and staff.
  • Participates in recruiting to identify and evaluate associates and internal/external candidates for promotion and hire.
  • Works closely with support staff (HR, Finance, Maintenance, Engineering, Safety, IT and other cross functional leaders) to build and secure support and resources for projects and initiatives.
  • All other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Directly manages Area Managers and carries out leadership responsibilities in accordance with the organization's procedures. You will lead a dynamic team of Area Managers and supervisors to achieve operational excellence through coaching and mentoring the team and drive employee engagement within the building while maintaining a safety and quality focus. Role will have multi-shift responsibility.
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Proven management & leadership skills
  • Industry knowledge of the application of Company products
  • Eight (8) plus years of experience
    • Lean manufacturing implementation
    • Ability to work in and promote an atmosphere of teamwork and mutual respect.
    • Ability to problem solve in a collaborative manner.
    • Leadership qualities inside and outside the organization.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration or manufacturing related field. MBA preferred
  • Minimum 8 years of experience in manufacturing leadership
  • Lean Manufacturing experience and implementation
  • Six Sigma Black belt or Green belt preferred.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Person will have the ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Person must have the ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Person will need the ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
COMPUTER SKILLS:
Proficient computer skills including knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk and reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to talk or hear. The employee may be required to lift items weighing up to 100 lbs.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
