Job Summary:
As a Sr. Mechanical Engineer at Mercury Systems, be a senior member of the Sensor Systems Mechanical Engineering team focused on the thermal analysis and thermal design of rugged mission critical technology.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to work across the business on a variety of Mercury’s products including rugged servers, open standard rugged modules, and customer specific subsystem designs. As a Thermal Analyst you will have opportunities to drive mechanical design to achieve optimal thermal performance. Analysis work will be presented to both internal program teams and external customers. There will be opportunities to help influence thermal design, and cooling technology across the engineering organization.

You will be a part of the Sensor Systems Mechanical Engineering team. A high energy group which works together closely to help produce highly reliable rugged products. Members of the team, work side by side from whiteboard sessions, to engineering labs, to the factory floor ensuring products meet the needs of our customers and are delivered on time.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Running thermal analysis on PCBA and subsystem designs in both FloTherm and MSC scSTREAM
  • Interpreting results of analysis and making recommendations to the design engineers for improved thermal performance
  • Presenting results to internal and external customers in design reviews
  • Compiling results in Thermal Analysis reports, presenting those results to internal and external program teams in formal design reviews
  • Participate in testing efforts to help correlate thermal analysis models to test results
  • Will work closely with the lead thermal analyst in the group, to conduct peer reviews of work
  • Planning, organizing, and conducting technical projects or phases of projects involving design and development of new or improved product and/or processes
Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering and minimum 5 years of prior relevant experience or a Graduate Degree (MS/PhD) and a minimum of 3 years of prior related experience
  • Experience using thermal analysis software tools and compiling thermal analysis reports/presentations
  • Expertise in heat transfer and thermal management techniques as it applies to electronic sub-assemblies
  • Aerospace, Defense, Government, Computer Electronics, or Military Industry experience
  • This position requires you to have or obtain a government security clearance. Security clearances may only be granted to U.S. citizens
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with FloTherm and or MSC scSTREAM thermal analysis tools – or comparable analysis tools
  • Experience and understanding of Printed Wiring Board Assemblies design and processes
  • Experience packaging and cooling electronics
  • Experience with Aerospace and Defense Processor design - chassis, backplane, and cabling
  • Experience with Structural Analysis tools such as Nastran
  • Familiarity with Electronics assembly and construction processes and techniques
