Job description

Under general supervision, supports the daily operations of parks and recreation facilities, including implementing goals, objectives, policies, procedures, and leading various sports, nutrition, cultural, and seasonal special events for youth, teens, adults, and senior citizens. The below list of tasks is ILLUSTRATIVE ONLY incumbents in this class may not be required to perform all duties listed and may be required to perform additional, position-specific duties.

TASKS:

  • Coordinate, schedule, and implement daily activities of a given program, including administration of program curriculum, leading program activities, monitoring and enforcing program rules and regulations,
  • Generate, collect required documentation, maintain records and prepare reports related to work assigned and special event programs
  • Plan, prioritize, assign, train, and provide technical guidance to staff in the assigned center or program area and assist in evaluations on operations and activities;
  • Create promotional literature for quarterly brochures and guide and communicate information about programs to the public, school officials, and community groups.
  • Serve as a team leader by modeling appropriate behavior, monitoring strict adherence to program guidelines, and enforcing rules.
  • Responsible for appropriate use, maintenance, and storage of all program supplies and equipment.
  • Perform other department, site, or other job-related duties as necessary.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND OTHER CHARACTERISTICS:

  • Knowledgeable of program, event, and event planning techniques, vendor recruitment policies and procedures; planning, organizing, and implementing activities and events; departmental and City policies and procedures; and quality problem-solving techniques and methods;
  • Skilled in training and directing staff and volunteers to ensure program activities are accomplished, Provide information and open communication with appropriate individuals, explaining, implementing, and enforcing City and departmental policies and procedures; problem-solving day-to-day issues and concerns;
  • Ability to perform essential duties by exercising sound judgment with little supervision, develop productive teams, and establishing and maintaining a respectful and courteous working relationship with participants, volunteers, staff, and those contacted in the course of work.
  • Proficient in using computers, electronic devices, and industry-related software packages to perform essential job duties.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Work is performed primarily in indoor and outdoor recreational facilities; may be exposed to inclement weather conditions; work and walk on various surfaces, including slippery or uneven surfaces; may be required to work extended hours, including evenings and weekends. Requires sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in an office and recreation facility setting; to stand or sit for prolonged periods; to occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and twist; to lift, carry, push, or pull light to moderate amounts of weight (10-50 pounds); See in the normal visual range with or without correction. Hear in the normal audio range with or without correction.
