Position Description

Harvard Business School seeks a highly motivated individual to serve as a Senior Researcher during the 2023-2024 academic year and further, supporting a special project with Private Capital Project (PCP). The Senior Researcher will work in the areas of private equity, entrepreneurial finance, and venture capital to support the faculty’s research agendas for the Private Capital Project.

The Senior Researcher position reports directly to faculty and administrative manager in the Research Staff Services office. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong conceptual ability; high quality of mind; strong communication skills; the ability to work productively under time pressure; the capacity to work well independently; and the ability to interact successfully with senior leaders.

Primary duties include:
  • Work alongside faculty to shape the strategy of the Private Capital Project. Lead design and implementation of project plans in support of project goals, including the promotion of the project and increasing brand awareness among current students and alums, academic researchers and practitioners.
  • Develop a network of researchers, consultants, evaluators, investors, academic institutions, etc. working within the HBS ecosystem; where appropriate, identify opportunities for partnerships or collaborations to advance the goals and leadership
  • Partner closely with the Project Director on key initiatives and project deliverables as assigned.
  • Manage communication and creation of brand content, including the creation of newsletters, management of social media channels, and conducting webinars with applicable groups
  • Represent HBS externally to generate additional insights and build awareness of the project efforts, including participating in working groups or tasks forces, or other like activities as relevant.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Basic Qualifications

The ideal candidate is a current MBA student, or recent MBA graduate. Bachelor’s degree and 3-5 years of relevant research and/or work experience required. Evidence of academic excellence and of independent research experience required.

Additional Qualifications and Skills

Knowledge and training in private capital is preferred. Consulting and/or project management experience preferred.

The candidate must be analytically-minded and possess strong conceptual skills; have extremely high standards in terms of quality of work, attention to detail, strong organizational, and communication skills.
Proven ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously and to adapt to changes in priorities; ability to work calmly under deadline pressure, work both independently and as a team member, take initiative; and follow projects through to completion. Diplomatic skills, comfort in interacting with prominent individuals, and grace under pressure are essential.

Additional Information

This is a full-time or part-time term appointment (depending upon the hired candidates availability) starting this summer (start date flexible) through June 30, 2024.

This role is offered as a hybrid (some combination of onsite and remote) where you are required to be onsite at our Boston, MA based campus 2-4 days per week. Specific days and schedule will be determined between you and your manager.

We may conduct candidate interviews virtually (phone and/or via Zoom) and/or in-person for this role.
