The Senior Technical Writer collaborates with the owner of the material to analyze the need for training, perform appropriate research, compile necessary information, and document the process in a clear and concise manner for individual business areas or throughout the company. This position will assist in the development of Technical Writers; providing mentorship and guidance as needed.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain ongoing partnerships with product developers, project managers, as well as other pertinent team members and areas, to assist with documentation needs as necessary.
- Collaborate with content owners and key decision makers to identify the scope of each project. Lead the process of formatting, editing, organizing documentation - ensure that gaps are identified, properly communicated to the content owner, and provide best practice solutions.
- Conduct interviews and collaborate with content owner for analysis to determine subject material, scope, format, edits, organization, and flow based on established requirements.
- Conduct update briefing cycles with each proponent of a project to ensure the requesting proponent clearly understands and approves changes and updates. Obtains legal approval prior to the publication of any product. Submit final materials to the proponent for approval.
- Synchronize project support in accordance with Company priority of training. Provide ongoing support and maintenance of documentation. Recommend changes to priority based on results of key performance indicators, surveys, or Senior Leader guidance.
- Implement and manage request intake process; manage cyclic update and review of published material to ensure compliance with policies and procedures. Consult with others on lay out of documentation, distribution plan, presentation for review, testing and feedback.
- Maintain records of work and revisions in a SharePoint database to track content, required review and sign off authority as prudent and necessary under the company Records Retention policy; and to ensure historic information is available for potential liability and unemployment claims.
- Mentor Technical Writers through the development process. Clearly define the development process of a project from the identification of the requirement to final publication as the basis of Technical Writer development.
- Maintain a centralized storage location for all published material with clearly identified rules of knowledge management; and to prevent duplicate or contradictive information.

- Bachelor’s degree in communications or relevant area or equivalent experience is required.
- At least five years’ experience in technical writing required.
- Proficient use of Microsoft and Adobe products, technical writing database software and e-learning or web-based content layout required (i.e., Dreamweaver, InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Visio, Snag-it, Author-it, etc.)
- Knowledge of commonly used technical writing functions is required (i.e., step/action formatting, print screens, subsections, pseudonyms, etc.)
- Must possess excellent verbal and written communication, editing and collaboration skills. Requires meticulous attention to detail and accurate grammar, punctuation, and spelling.
- Strong time management, multi-tasking, analytical, conceptual thinking, and problem-solving skills are required.
- Service oriented with strong interpersonal skills for successful collaboration; maintain professional working relationships across all levels of the organization.
