Site Team Job Description: Custodial
Reports to: The Facilities Manager
Status: Part time/Full time
FLSA: non-exempt
Each member of the Garber Church site team serves as a member of the ministry team of the Garber Church. Although the work pertains to the physical environment of our facilities and properties, all of the work contributes to the church’s mission of making disciples for the transformation of the world. Not only does cleanliness and a good state of repair contribute to a wholesome ministry environment, so too does the employee’s manners and consideration of others. In the conduct and manner of this work, we seek to honor Jesus Christ and to edify the whole church.
JOB SUMMARY: The site team employee seeks to keep the facilities and properties clean, in good repair, and prepared for the variety of program functions calendared for each day and week.
RATE OF PAY is decided annually by the Church Council upon recommendation of the Staff-Parish Relations Committee. Raises become effective on January 1 of each year.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Maintain the facilities and premises in a state of good repair and cleanliness
a. General cleaning of bathrooms, floors, surfaces, windows, coffee bars, classrooms and stairwells
b. Garbage and recycling removal, as needed
c. Restocking of paper products in bathrooms, kitchens, coffee bars, etc.
d. Detailed cleaning according to schedule or as assigned.
e. Maintaining mops including washing and drying
f. Keep cleaning cloths and kitchen cloths clean and stocked
g. Keep interior and exterior door mats clean and tidy
2. Help prepare facilities and premises for services and groups
- “Set up” and “take down” for services and other functions,
b. Unlocking and/or locking as assigned and turning on/off lights.
3. Monitor and maintain in good order the mechanical rooms and work rooms; maintain the store rooms with cleaning and paper supplies.
4. Report to the Facility Manager necessary repairs and supplies acquisitions.
Accompany and provide facility access to outside vendors.
5. Monitor the facilities daily for anything that is potentially a safety hazard and seek to remedy or report to
Facility Manager as quickly as possible.
6 Represent the site team, as assigned, with the Wednesday Workers and/or other volunteer groups.
7. Present a genuine welcome and a polite reception to those entering the building and to those needing
help. Assist volunteers as needed.
8. Accomplish additional duties and/or tasks as assigned from time to time.
Qualifications:
- Knowledge of methods, materials, and equipment used in the full range of custodial work;
- Ability to read, write and to keep basic records;
- Possession of a valid North Carolina Driver’s license;
- Flexibility in disposition enabling one to work a varied schedule; adjust to the interruptions that come in serving in a team environment that includes volunteers, members, and visitors;
- Christian Commitments that enable one to sign the staff covenant, abide by the code of conduct and to serve faithfully as a member of a ministry team.
Core Competencies:
- Physical ability to perform the work responsibilities including the ability to lift 40 pounds, the ability to stack chairs to 5 feet and move tables
- Ability to perform repetitive motions associated with cleaning and maintaining facilities;
- Ability to work safely from a ladder and/or lift at a variety of heights;
- Ability to work safely in tight spaces;
- Ability to build and maintain positive relationships with co-workers, volunteers, members and visitors in the conduct of the work;
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $12.97 per hour
