The Boeing Company is currently seeking a Software Senior Manager to join the Air Dominance Phantom Works team located in Seattle, WA, Berkeley, MO, Mesa, AZ or Ridley Park, PA. This position will focus on supporting the Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) business organization.

The position is responsible for Software development management across the autonomous collaborative platform’s portfolio. This position will manage software development across Mission Systems, Vehicle Management System, and Autonomy products. Manager expected to help ensure there is alignment, collaboration and consistency across the portfolio and with other programs/teams within BDS Software and the larger Enterprise organization. Manager will be customer facing and expected to support both supplier and customer engagements including proposals. Manager expected to align all software development activities to Enterprise expectations for Software Quality, IV&V, and Design Practices.

This position leads employees and first-level managers performing engineering and technical activities in the area of Software Engineering. Develops and drives coordinated departmental plans, policies and procedures and provides input on departmental business and technical strategies, goals, objectives. Acquires resources for department activities, provides technical management of suppliers and leads process improvements. Develops and maintains relationships and partnerships with customers, stakeholders, peers, partners and direct reports. Provides guidance and approval of technical approaches, products and processes. Manages, develops and motivates team.

This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at one of the listed location options.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Manages employees and mid-level managers performing engineering and technical activities in the area of Software Engineering
  • Building a core common software team supporting programs in the portfolio
  • Develops and drives integrated organizational plans, policies and procedures and guides the development of business and technical strategies, goals, objectives
  • Acquires resources for organizational activities, provides technical management of suppliers and leads process improvements
  • Develops and manages relationships and partnerships with customers, stakeholders, peers, partners and direct reports
  • Provides oversight and approval of technical approaches, products and processes.
  • Manages, develops and motivates employees and mid-level managers
  • Collaborate with leadership team on strategy development to leverage the engineering and assets for long term transitions with the business strategy
  • Provide clear written and spoken communication to a variety of audiences
  • Foster a culture that supports diversity and inclusion

Security Clearance and Export Control Requirements:

This position requires an active Secret U.S. Security Clearance. (A U.S. Security Clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active.) This position requires ability to obtain program access, for which the U.S. Government requires U.S. Citizenship only.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/ Experience):

  • Bachelor, Master or Doctorate of Science degree from an accredited course of study, in Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics or other technical degree
  • 4+ years of leading, managing, and growing software teams
  • 8+ years of experience with leading the development, documenting and maintaining software, software-to-hardware interfaces and designs for complex software systems
  • 4+ years of experience developing project execution plans, schedules and budgets
  • 4+ years of experience with modern software development methodologies

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Experience with mentoring, coaching, guiding, and leading managers and engineering/technical personnel
  • Experience building a team across multiple sites
  • Experience managing a team across multiple sites
  • 10+ years of hands-on full-lifecycle software development
  • 5+ years of Earned Value Management /Control Account Management
  • Experience with proposal writing and software estimation
  • Experience with Product-Line Engineering
  • Experience with Continuous Integration (CI) / Continuous Deployment (CD) pipelines
  • Experience with Agile Software Development
