Summary

The Solutions Architect develops innovative solutions to complex problems. This role includes evaluation and design of applications, platforms, and infrastructure solutions, and contributes to the development of technical standards, architectural concepts, and large-scale solutions.

Duties And Responsibilities

To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform the following essential duties satisfactorily. Other duties may be assigned to address business needs and changing business practices.

  • Collaborates with stakeholders to understand the needs and requirements for enterprise solutions.
  • Leads the evaluation, design, and selection of solutions primarily with a wide breadth of enterprise platforms, cloud solutions and infrastructure services.
  • Coordinates with existing domain architects in the formalization and adoption of IT standards and procedures.
  • Assists teams through the planning, implementation, scaling, and support of enterprise solutions.
  • Analyzes operational cost data, identifies cost-saving opportunities, and makes recommendations.
  • Identifies and makes recommendations for process improvements across areas to reduce the percentage of time spent on reactive work.
  • Contributes to development of IT architectural practices.
  • Develops and manages capacity plans, recommends upgrades, replacements and decommissioning options incorporating business and technology impacts.
  • Develops platform strategies and contribute to overarching technology and platform strategies.
  • Drives research on emerging technologies.
  • Partners directly with strategic vendors to drive Greenbrier technology roadmaps.
  • Cross trains and performs knowledge sharing with other teams.
  • Creates in-depth design documentation, business cases, recommendations, and presentations

Qualifications

The following generally describes requirements to successfully perform the assigned duties.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, computer engineering, system analysis, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • 8+ years of relevant experience recommending enterprise systems
  • Ability to travel up to 20%
  • Ability to work on-call and afterhours
  • Proficient with designing complex enterprise systems
  • Familiar with cost modeling
  • Familiar with automation tools and Devops practices
  • Advanced proficiency in making decisions and solving problems using sound inclusive reasoning and judgement, proactively anticipating needs, and prioritizing action steps
  • Ability to collaborate and communicate professionally, both verbally and in writing, at all levels of the organization
  • Ability to work independently
  • The ability to perform multiple tasks and functions including effective time management to meet deadlines and balance priorities

Preferred Qualifications

  • Cloud architect or related certification(s)

Occasionally required to be in a plant or shop environment, which will require the use of PPE equipment as environmental conditions dictate.
