Job Summary

As a Thermal Engineering Manager, you will lead the company’s spacecraft thermal engineering team as a point of contact for technical, budget and resource allocation issues to meet team members’ needs, customer requirements and company goals.

This position’s internal job code is Mech & Stuctural Engr Manager. Our team is currently hiring for level range of K.

Responsibilities


Responsibilities

  • Management of Engineering Teams, 10-15 thermal engineers
  • Motivate and support their team.
  • Help to resolve problematic situations or employees
  • Advocate for the team
  • Communicate company goings-on, higher level decisions, events as required
  • Escalate matters to Director or HR as required.
  • Provide regular 1:1 meetings with direct reports
  • Facilitate formal semi-annual feedback
  • Gather performance review inputs
  • Write summarized and integrated performance reviews
  • Provide and discuss feedback with team members
  • Recommend promotions and annual raises.
    Recruiting
  • Establish and lead process for recruiting with support from Director
  • Conduct Phone Screens and First round interviews, recommend 2nd round
  • Identify where the team needs help - either with contractors, consultants or new hires
    Technical authority
  • Act as technical authority, define delegates for the team, and lead internal technical reviews.
  • Provide technical mentorship.
  • Promote knowledge sharing by encouraging lunch and learns and make sure peer reviews happen regularly.
  • Use errors/mistakes as learning experiences – plan so we don’t run into that thing again. Verify a risk is real before elevating.
  • Determine detailed implementation of work products and ensures the efficiency of processes so that they are aligned with the team structure and tools.
  • Develop performance metrics.
  • Champion and promote a culture of continuous improvement
    Team task management
  • Assigns REA’s to proposals, programs, and products
  • Planning, Scheduling, Forecasting, Resource allocation
  • Identify needs and resources gaps
  • Computers, desks, cabinets, software, etc
  • Keep customers, PMs, & Engr Leadership appraised of high-level issues.
  • Identify, communicate, and assist in the risk management process.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Physics, or other relevant fields
  • 5 or more years of experience in the design, development, analysis, implementation, testing, and/or operation of spacecraft thermal systems or other related complex thermal systems
  • Proficiency with thermal analysis tools (e.g. Thermal Desktop, SINDA/FLUINT, ANSYS, Thermica)
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a TS/SCI Security Clearance

Preferred Qualifications

  • Active TS/SCI clearance

Summary Pay-Range

  • Level K: $139,400 - $205,000
