The City of Somerville is looking for an experienced outreach worker who is fluent in Spanish to support the City’s COVID-19 pandemic response efforts, including vaccination campaigns and recovery initiatives. The individual should have proven experience working in community outreach, community organizing, or other forms of community engagement. This is a temporary, full-time position (40 hrs/week).

The Spanish COVID-19 Outreach Worker would support all communications, outreach efforts, community engagement, and service/program access relating to preparedness, mitigation, response, and recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic for Spanish speakers in Somerville. This support includes interpretation and translation of information and materials; dissemination of information; facilitating vaccine and test access; providing accompaniment/support to residents in applying for programs, services, accessing financial assistance and other resources provided by the City of Somerville, the state, community partners, and/or other entities aiding in COVID recovery efforts; and supporting other activities that look to build resilience, restore wellbeing, and further prosperity for Somerville community members.

This individual will have to conduct in-person, virtual, phone, digital, and print efforts and would report directly to the Spanish Services Coordinator and also to the Director of the SomerViva: Office of Immigrant Affairs.

Essential Functions:

  • Support all communications and outreach efforts to reach Somerville community members with critical information on pandemic related topics, such as public safety, health guidance, emergency alerts, health orders, vaccine access, COVID-19 testing, recovery service support information, related public meeting announcements, and related events both virtual and in person
  • Conduct in-person, virtual, phone, digital, and print efforts
  • Assist with translation, interpretation, and in-language outreach when necessary for Spanish speakers with limited English proficiency

Recommended Minimum Qualifications:

Knowledge, Abilities and Skill:


Education and Experience: Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent plus two (2) or more years of directly relevant experience. Must be 18+ to apply.


  • Knowledge: Must have strong knowledge specifically of Somerville immigrant communities and local/regional immigrant services providers. Must have knowledge of local/regional/federal social service providers and proven ability to successfully navigate a range of social/support services ranging from homelessness prevention, housing, tenant rights, healthcare access, educational access, mental health, nutrition, childcare, etc. Must be familiar with HIPAA and other privacy requirements. Must have proven knowledge of citizen engagement and outreach techniques, especially for vulnerable populations and limited English proficiency residents.
  • Abilities: Must have proven ability to develop and conduct community surveys; facilitate public, internal, and coalition meetings; and organize and facilitate workshops, presentations, cultural events, and other community events. Proven ability to work in a team or independently as needed.
