PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:
The CP Police Service is accepting applications for a Police Special Agent based in La Crosse, WI. The CP Police Service is a railway police department, which delivers police services to the CP network. Duties include emergency response, special events policing, risk reduction operations, investigation of criminal acts, crime prevention, and public safety programs.


POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Police Special Agents of the CP Police Service are employed by CP. CP Police Special Agents are responsible for:

  • Public safety through enforcement and education;
  • Prevention and detection of crime;
  • Facilitating the enforcement of federal, state, and municipal laws;
  • Criminal and collision investigations;
  • Emergency response to incidents and calls for service;
  • Protection of railway assets, operations, and personnel;
  • Work with other law enforcement agencies during investigations and in joint enforcement operations;
  • Maintain good working knowledge of relevant legislation, policies, and procedures;
  • Effectively and efficiently plan, manage and prioritize workload and conduct general and directed patrols;
  • Provide assistance to victims of crime;
  • Prepare comprehensive reports and prosecution files and deliver court testimony.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be a U.S. citizen;
  • Must possess a High school diploma;
  • College or university program in a related field would be considered an asset;
  • Must be a full time state certified Police Officer in the state of Wisconsin or have the ability to transfer police certification in accordance with Wisconsin standards;
  • Knowledge of the U.S. Criminal Justice System;
  • This position is considered ‘on-call’ and the successful applicant must be willing to attend incidents after normal working hours;
  • Must acquire a passport upon hiring;
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license for the state in which they are employed;
  • Must be qualified in First Aid, CPR and AED;
  • Community involvement would be an asset;
  • Basic computer skills;
  • Possess strong communication skills;
  • Must be able to meet CPPS Firearms and Use of Force Standards;
  • Be prepared to travel on assignments in response to incidents and for training;
  • Possess strong communication skills;
  • Must be able to complete and pass a polygraph exam;
  • Must be able to complete and pass a psychological exam.

Medical Requirements:

The successful candidate will need to successfully complete the following clearances:

  • Criminal history check
  • Education verification
  • Last 7 years of employment history
  • Last 3 years of driving history
  • Social Security number verification

Management Conductor Program:

Becoming a qualified conductor or locomotive engineer is the single best way for a management employee to learn the business at CP. You may be required to obtain a certification or to maintain your current certification/qualification as a conductor or locomotive engineer.
