SPECIAL EDUCATION CASE MANAGER
The Village School of North Bennington has an anticipated opening for a full-time Case Manager for our Special Education Department for the 2023-2024 school year. The Case Manager will have a strong knowledge of and experience with facilitating and coordinating IEP team meetings, developing IEPs, and a solid understanding of Vermont state Special Education compliance requirements. This position is for the full 2023-2024 school year and includes the potential for hybrid work (a combination of remote and on-site work).
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND KEY DUTIES:
- Manage and coordinate all Special Education services at the Village School
- Work with the Special Education team, evaluators, specialists, counselors, and/or interventionists to create Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) for students in Kindergarten through Sixth Grade
- Work with the Special Education team to set instructional and/or behavioral goals in the IEP which are clear, specific, and measurable
- Work with the Special Education clerk and LEA to schedule all IEP meetings and evaluations
- Attend and, where needed, facilitate IEP meetings
- Serve as the Special Education liaison between the Village School and the Southwestern Vermont Supervisory Union (SVSU), working closely with their LEA to ensure that meetings, evaluations, and services are coordinated effectively and efficiently
- Attend all meetings relating to Special Education (either in person or virtually)
- Document student progress with accurate information to track student progress and learning
- Maintain all IEPs and Special Education files in accordance with the regulations of the State of Vermont
- Use and analyze assessment data which fully and accurately provides evidence of student understanding of content and mastery of IEP goals to provide timely and valuable information to teachers, support staff, and families
- Consult with faculty, interventionists, specialists, and support staff, as needed, in order to provide summaries of student needs, to educate teachers about student needs, to clarify Special Education terminology, or to provide mentorship around instructional supports for students
- Provide some direct Tier 3 instruction for students as specified in the IEP goals and objectives
- Serve as the Coordinator for Services for Students with Disabilities (SSD) at the Village School, as well as the SSD contact person for families with students at the Village School who wish to apply for testing accommodations
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in Special Education or a related field is required; preference will be given to candidates with a Masters degree in Special Education
- Valid Vermont Teaching License with a Special Education endorsement; a provisional or emergency license may be considered, but preference will be given to candidates who are licensed (or eligible for licensure) in Special Education in Vermont (please note that copies of transcripts and license must be uploaded to the application in SchoolSpring for this position)
- Must have excellent communication skills with a commitment to working collaboratively with colleagues, teachers, and families
- Experience in developing and/or providing IEP case management is required
- Preference will be given to candidates with working knowledge of the profiles of neurodivergent students and who are well versed in evidence based practices, such as Orton-Gillingham, Wilson, and Structured Literacy
- Preference will be given to candidates with an understanding and working knowledge of Vermont’s Special Education laws
