About the Position
The School Building Principal provides oversight, supervision, support, and guidance to Education Program staff and oversees teachers’ development, implementation, and progress monitoring of student Individualized Education Programs (IEP’s). Maintains an environment of respect and rapport and ensures that employee-student interactions are friendly, demonstrating general warmth, caring and respect.
School Building Principal Responsibilities
o Coordinates daily staffing assignments throughout the building to ensure safe supervision of students.
- Ensures that teachers have a thorough understanding of students’ backgrounds, skills and interests to develop creative lesson plans that make learning the core curriculum fun for students!
- Monitors staff levels and classroom instruction to ensure appropriate and sufficient implementation of agency-endorsed educational curriculum and instructional methodology as well as the application of classroom behavioral supports and interventions. Responds and addresses substandard implementation of educational curriculum and instruction with plans of correction.
- Conducts regular classroom observations to maintain a visible and active leadership role throughout the building, as well as to provide teachers and classroom staff with valuable feedback so they may hone their professional skills.
- Facilitate meetings between staff, parents, and treatment team members to develop recommendations, support students, and resolve concerns.
- Serves as a role model for the school community in upholding agency philosophy and mission.
School Building Principal Qualifications
- Master’s Degree in Education.
- Current New York State School Building Leader (SBL) certification, or willingness to actively pursue such certification.
- Three or more years’ experience preferred, preferably in special education or other closely related field.
- Experience working with people with Intellectual disabilities preferred.
- Ability to meet physical requirements of the position when performing the following: standing, walking, sitting, grasping, bending, stooping, squatting, kneeling and climbing.
