Job Description: Speech Language Pathologist

REPORTS TO: President
POSITION SUMMARY
Provides services for schools.
Services are provided under the direction of the Exceptional Children’s Director, Director of the affiliated program, or attending physician with the participation of the family and other members of the interdisciplinary team, as indicated.

QUALIFICATIONS

1. Meets the education and experience requirements for Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) in speech pathology or audiology granted by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association.

2. Is certified to practice Speech-Language Pathology in the state of North Carolina
3. Resides in North Carolina.
4. Has a minimum of one (1) year of experience.
5. Current CPR certification, as applicable.
6. Demonstrates strong verbal and written communication skills with good interpersonal skills.
7. Licensed driver with automobile insured in accordance with state/Accessible requirements.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY

1. Performs speech therapy assessments, diagnostic tests, skilled treatments, and ongoing evaluation for clients who are receiving services under an IEP or a medically approved Plan of Care. a. Completes comprehensive assessments within forty-eight (48) hours of referral for speech therapy services unless other arrangements are made. b. Develops a speech therapy plan that identifies functional speech defects or swallowing difficulty and is directed toward improving client function. c. Reviews and updates the care plan based on client need and Accessible requirements. d. Documents all findings, plans, interventions, and client progress (outcomes) in the clinical record and submits documentation to Accessible per guidelines. e. Communicates plans and changes to the physician and to the designated nursing staff through the care plan, written progress notes, and participation in care conferences. f. Reports changes in client condition or service plan to Accessible supervisor the date changes are noted/made. g. Implements teaching appropriate to the client's needs and abilities and evaluates the effectiveness of the plan. h. Develops care plan guidelines for other members of the team to support the client goals. i. Refers to other disciplines as indicated and documents accordingly. . j. Participates in interdisciplinary activities per Accessible guidelines. k. Attends client care conferences as needed to provide information to other members of the team. l. Promotes referrals to other disciplines and documents this information in the record. m. Participates in Accessible quality improvement activities as appropriate. Utilizes outcome reports as basis for improvement. n. Participates in the ongoing clinical record review.

2. Performs job in compliance with Accessible policies and procedures and professional and community standards. a. Accepts responsibility in accordance with role of the Speech/Language Therapist. b. Provides services in accordance with applicable state standards. c. Participates in continuing education programs related to area of practice.

4. Promotes personal safety and a safe environment for clients and coworkers. a. Demonstrates knowledge of safety and infection control practices by compliance with Accessible policies and procedures. b. Recognizes and reports potentially unsafe situations. c. Demonstrates safe practice in the use of equipment. d. Assesses environment and initiates actions to prevent accidents and promote safety.

5. Maintains confidentiality in all aspects of the job. a. Protects the confidentiality of information in the client clinical record and releases this information only in accordance with Accessible policy and professional standards. b. Does not discuss client or staff identities, conditions, or circumstances in public or with others who are not professionally involved with the situation/person. c. Protects written confidential documents in a manner that prevents unauthorized access. 1 of 2

6. Performs other related duties and responsibilities as deemed necessary.
7. Provides supervision and follows ASHA guidance for SLPA.
