Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and talented Associate Scientist to support Gilead Discovery Research portfolios as a member of the Discovery Sciences & Technologies team
Discovery Sciences & Technologies is responsible for the design and execution of rigorous, quantitative, and physiologically-relevant in vitro biochemical and functional cellular assays.
We collaborate within multi-disciplinary teams to discover and evolve drug candidates from lead identification efforts during project inception to the characterization of the final development candidate.
The candidate will be responsible for designing and delivering high quality in vitro assays utilizing common high-throughput tools as well as novel approaches.
Strong organizational skills and multi-tasking ability are required. Ability to work independently in a high-pace, multi-disciplinary, matrix environment is essential.
Key responsibilities:
- Conceive, develop, optimize and execute in vitro plate-based assays to support drug discovery efforts
- Enable lead discovery with small molecules and biologics screening campaigns
- Perform in vitro functional assays to elucidate structure-activity relationship (SAR) for lead optimization
- Perform mechanistic studies to elucidate lead molecules mode of action
- Interpret experimental outcomes and present results in project team meetings
- Evaluate and implement novel assay technologies to support advancement of internal programs and core platform functions
- Work successfully in a cross-functional team environment and communicate clearly both verbally and in writing to a variety of audiences
Qualifications
- BS with 7+ years or MS with 5+ years in a biological field
- Experience with in vitro high-throughput biochemical and cell-based assay technologies
- Familiarity in the use of lab automation and HTS instrumentation is preferable
- Computational skills enabling automated data acquisition and analysis, and familiarity with related software applications (GraphPad Prism) is desirable
- Strong analytical skills and attention to details
- Clear oral communication and interpersonal skills
The salary range for this position is: $129,540.00 - $167,640.00. Gilead considers a variety of factors when determining base compensation, including experience, qualifications, and geographic location. These considerations mean actual compensation will vary. This position may also be eligible for a discretionary annual bonus, discretionary stock-based long-term incentives (eligibility may vary based on role), paid time off, and a benefits package. Benefits include company-sponsored medical, dental, vision, and life insurance plans*.
