About the role: As a highly collaborative professional, you are energized by change and making a difference. As a Sr Business Initiatives Consultant reporting to the VP of Strategic Initiatives, you will serve as a key resource in developing and delivering on strategic goals. As a part of the Office of the CEO, you’ll work with to the Senior Leadership Team and leaders across Wellmark. You will be tasked with building out and defining dashboards to monitor success and will construct visually appealing presentations for leadership to communicate strategic outcomes. You will use your industry knowledge to advance Wellmark’s strategies and help shape the future of the enterprise.

Where can we improve?” You are adept at communication with all levels of the organization, adjusting to various strengths and styles. Required:
- Bachelor’s degree or direct and applicable work experience.
- 7+ years of health insurance or related industry experience that includes business/organizational process consulting and strong understanding of business initiatives and interdependencies.
- Strong ability to handle complex situations and multiple responsibilities simultaneously and mix long-term projects with the urgency of immediate demands.
- Track record of success leading complex programs/projects through partnership with diverse teams, including senior leadership; ensures programs/projects meet quality, time, and stakeholder expectations while maintaining alignment with enterprise strategy.
- Demonstrated process improvement skills. Excellent research, analytical, and critical thinking skills, and the ability to develop creative solutions.
- Outstanding verbal and written communication skills. Effectively communicates across varying levels of an organization, including to executive audiences, and facilitates meetings.
- Effective consulting and interpersonal skills. Demonstrated success understanding the needs of others, asking meaningful questions, influencing decisions, developing solutions, and promoting collaboration.
- Proactive self-starter with effective time management skills and the ability to organize and prioritize projects, timelines, and competing priorities. Strong attention to detail.
- Ability to challenge the status quo while maintaining relationships. Quickly finds common ground and solves problems. Viewed as a collaborative, trustworthy business partner.
- Flexible, adaptable, and able to effectively lead, coach and mentor others through change.
- Highly proficient with the Microsoft Office Suite.
Preferred:
- Master’s degree or direct and applicable work experience.
- Previous experience at Wellmark strongly preferred – strong understanding of internal practices and Wellmark business strategy; strong relationships with business leaders.
Additional Information
a. Work collaboratively with the Vice President Strategic Initiatives and Office of the CEO and key stakeholders across the enterprise in developing a process for the identification, development, prioritization, and reporting of strategic initiatives to achieve corporate goals. Identify opportunities to continually improve and refine processes.
b. Partner with other internal business stakeholders, aligned with initiative/program/project management, to share best practices and ensure sequencing of initiatives across divisions. Maintain close working relationships with business stakeholders to develop, problem solve, and review performance insights, and to provide regular progress updates on the corporate strategy.
c. Using strong communication skills and demonstrated capability to think extemporaneously, create and present data and information to key internal and external audiences to persuade and effectively tell a story, including Board of Director presentations.
d. Partner in the monitoring and tracking of aggregate performance against annual and long-term goals and additional core business objectives. Support root cause analysis and help determine key drivers of performance including forecasting of future performance outcomes.
e. Utilize analysis and systems knowledge to monitor, measure, and report performance and achievement of aggregate tactics, projects, and initiatives. Partner in the tracking and reporting of enterprise performance measures for operational and Board reviews.
f. Develop and maintain long-term, collaborative relationships with senior leaders, VPs, and business units across a variety of functions; consult with and facilitate discussion among officers and leaders across the enterprise to ensure that dependencies are captured and synergies are aligned. Connect and sequence initiatives to ensure key performance measures are met.
g. Support the Office of the CEO with ad hoc initiative support and requests as needed.
h. Other duties as assigned.
Hybrid Work Environment: As a hybrid employee, you’ll spend at least three (3) days a week in the Des Moines, IA office: Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, with the opportunity to work remotely on Monday and Friday if desired.
