How will you make an impact?

The Sr. Manager, Global Waste and Water Sustainability will join the Global Sustainability team passionate about our global effort to make the world healthier, cleaner and safer by improving practices in our operations, products, and supply chain. This role will report to the Sustainability Program Director and will lead the Company’s strategic execution on our waste and water commitments and optimize reporting and efficiency savings across our operations.

What will you do?

  • Develop and implement the Company’s global strategic waste and water sustainability program with emphasis on reducing waste and assessing water usage within existing facilities.
  • Support the development of site waste reduction glide paths that build holistic waste reduction strategies to optimize existing operations and generate productivity savings.
  • Collaborate with internal partners to develop project schedules, critical deliverables, budgets, resource allocations plan, and other support requirements to drive sustainability improvements.
  • Partner with functional and regional sustainability leaders to ensure consistent transfer of knowledge and cooperation across the global sustainability program.
  • Conduct reviews to assess project performance and ensure benefits are consistent with program requirements, including the development and implementation of measurement and verification plans.
  • Develop and own processes to track, monitor, and aggregate project productivity impacts.
  • Responsible for quarterly company-wide waste and water data collection effort
  • Lead completion of the annual CDP water disclosure and support other voluntary and mandatory reporting related to waste and water.
  • Participate on customer engagement opportunities and guide waste reduction initiatives specific to self-made products.
  • Support Thermo Fisher’s Net-zero Building Design Guide requirements specific to water infrastructure.
  • Examine and find opportunities to incorporate new waste reduction technologies and innovative implementation strategies.
  • Stay abreast of innovations within the sustainability and energy management fields; advise, mentor and support internal collaborators to keep them informed of key waste reduction technological developments.
  • Provide updates to program management role to communicate progress and needs to senior leadership.

Technical Responsibilities

  • Tracks and monitors timely completion of global commitments and project portfolio, plan vs. actual, and report that progress as required and developed necessary processes, dashboards, and systems to facilitate.
  • Contributes updates to overall project plans, tracking key achievements, and timelines.
  • Detects, calls out, and facilitates issue resolution and/or appropriate partner concern and address risk to commitment achievement.

How will you get here?

  • Bachelors degree required. Engineering, Science, Business, or Environmental Sciences preferred.
  • 8+ years or relevant work experience.
  • EHS, corporate sustainability, waste management and program management experience preferred.
  • Background in life sciences, biotech, pharma, manufacturing industry, and/or sustainability consulting preferred.
  • Proven ability to influence without direct authority.
  • Proven passion for and knowledge of corporate environmental sustainability
  • Ability to work independently, within a team, and collaboratively across geographies and cultures in a matrixed organization.
  • Ability to manage multiple workflows and assess priorities effectively.
  • Excels in a constantly evolving environment with ability to handle change effectively and frequently.
  • Proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint
