We are seeking an experienced Automation Engineer to work at our Defense Business facilities for fabrication and assembly of rocket motor components and assemblies in Huntsville, AL.


Automation Engineer will work with the manufacturing and facility teams to develop, mature, and transition automation solutions to improve manufacturing capability, effectiveness and employee safety. This small, dynamic team will learn the process requirements and then turn those needs into a solution. This requires motivated, self-starting individuals with a passion for technical creativity and the ability to work with others to achieve results. Furthermore, Automation Engineers will lead the automation solutions through project management activities, developing requirements, working with key suppliers, testing the automation, and transitioning the solution to the production team.

Essential Job Functions (Including % of Time for Each):
This position will specialize in developing automation solutions for the Defense Business Unit.

70% - Support overseeing the team and all aspects of an automation solution that includes developing requirements, creating conceptual solutions, preparing plans, monitoring suppliers, testing systems, and handing off the system to the end user.
20% - Support the Development and implementation of the vision for the automation team building standards to ensure commonality, easier transitions to production, and system support.
10% - Troubleshoot existing systems to resolve issues and recommend updates.
Requirements:

Requires a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Aero Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or related discipline and at least five (5) years of related experience (or an equivalent combination of education and experience), Master’s Degree Preferred.


Automation Engineer Position Requirements:
  • Knowledge of automation, robotics, or testing solutions required
  • Project management required
  • Working with 3rd party automation integrators desired
  • Programming Control systems: PLC, HMI’s is desired
  • Programming robotics is desired
  • Developing statements or work and requirements definition is desired
  • Parametric modeling is desired
  • Developing automation simulations is desired

Travel and Schedule:

  • Travel maybe required to support suppliers or other manufacturing sites.
  • Occasional off-shift and weekend work required to support manufacturing schedules

Requires U.S. Citizenship, U.S. Permanent Residency or other status as a U.S. Person. Must be able to satisfy federal government requirements for access to government information and having dual citizenship may preclude you from being able to meet this requirement.


Work Environment and Physical Requirements:

The work environment may require a combination of indoor and outdoor activity (hot, cold, wet, humid conditions) with a varied amount of walking, standing, sitting, climbing (i.e. ladders, stair, scaffolding, ramps), balance (maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling when walking, standing, or crouching on narrow, slippery, or erratically moving surfaces), bending, reaching, handling/fingering (seizing, holding, grasping, turning picking, pinching), stooping, kneeling, crouching and ability to lift/carry/push/pull up to 50 pounds. While performing the duties of this job, employees may work around variable noise levels. May require the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, safety shoes, and shop coat. May also be required to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment, including a computer. Ability to distinguish colors may also be necessary. Some employees may be required to drive between various locations within the Company facility.
