Job description
High end boarding stable is looking to hire a stable hand to join our team to provide care for a stable of 30 horses. This is a full care facility with high standards and customized care for each of the horses. We are a warm and friendly barn with a family atmosphere and very pleasant group of horse owners. Drama free and very few complaints due to the quality of care. This is a full time position with nights and weekends required. The team provides coverage for each other for days off, both planned and unplanned. Weekly time demands will be 38-42 hours depending on what is going on that week.
Candidates must be 18 years or older, reliable, have their own transportation, have a strong background in horse handling and care, communicate well with boarders and management, work with little supervision, have exceptional attention to detail, and above all - love horses and enjoying making each horse feel their best both physically and mentally!
Duties include:
- graining
- turnout
- hay and hay stacking
- sweeping
- stall cleaning
- water bucket and trough cleaning
- some gardening/landscaping
- handling horses for vet and farrier
- blanketing
- groundskeeping (dragging arena, weed eating, bush hogging, spreading manure, etc.)
- minor nursing care on occasion
- handling mares/foals
- barn cleaning and upkeep including minor repairs
Some additional work is available from the boarders on a contract basis (clipping, grooming, etc.), but those skills are not required.
Pay includes a weekly salary, paid time off (after first year), flex time (to some extent), apparel and other fringe benefits. We potentially could provide temporary housing to the perfect candidate while they find permanent housing if they were relocating to this area. This is a great place to work with a very caring group of people and lovely herd of horses.
Requirements
Minor handyman capabilities (using drill, saw, etc.) and knowing how to drive a tractor are a bonus.
