The Role

Cedar is making major improvements to the patient financial experience. Our technology platform leverages data science to engage patients and help them understand the cost of their care. The Pre-Visit Pillar of Engineering is building Cedar Pre, an exciting new product at Cedar, arming patients with valuable information before their visit, and allowing them to check in before they reach the front desk!

As we continue to rapidly grow our client base, we are in need of a Staff Engineer to lead Cedar Pre implementations. Leading a Cedar Pre client implementation involves extensive and innovative work across both data integrations and product engineering.

  • Data integrations in healthcare are remarkably challenging to get right, and represent one of the highest barriers to innovation in US healthcare! Success requires a strong mix of domain understanding, data ETL fundamentals, and ability to build tools and abstractions in a complex space.
  • Cedar’s product also presents a unique challenge: We take the incredible complexity of US healthcare, and on top of it we build experiences for patients that are simple, educate them, and guide them to resolve bills and prepare for their visit.

Responsibilities

  • Leading the development of multiple high-impact client implementation projects.
  • You’ll support engineers with technical mentorship, delegate tasks, and perform hands-on coding and code reviews.
  • You’ll also support your counterparts on the product and commercial teams on understanding and solving client problems, formulating technical strategy, and enhancing the pre-visit product.
  • Architecting and building tools and frameworks that enable faster, sustainable, and scalable Cedar Pre integrations.
  • Mentoring engineers at a variety of levels (junior through senior). Be a role model and trusted advisor for passionate and driven team members.
  • Driving org-level changes to improve existing processes, infrastructure, architecture, business problems, developer happiness, etc. Think broadly about opportunities to level-up the engineering org.
  • Cedar is committed to a flexible work environment, so this as well as many of our roles are remote friendly

What we look for in a candidate:

  • 8+ years of professional software development experience.
  • Backend focused with data integrations expertise.
  • Experience leading large technical projects that span multiple engineering teams and require multi-functional teamwork.
  • Strong computer science fundamentals - a degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field, or similar experience.
  • Experience mentoring engineers across all levels
  • Experience owning a business-critical application, standing up complex new systems, and building for supportability and long-term maintenance.
  • Ability to help the team ship by guiding teammates through making practical tradeoffs in high stakes situations, and jumping in to help get through a prod blocker.
  • Expertise in at least one major language.
  • Ability to debug complex issues involving subtle interactions between multiple systems and libraries.
  • Ability to explain sophisticated technical concepts simply.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Healthcare data integrations experience.
  • Strong client facing interpersonal skills.
  • Strong knowledge of SQL and prior experience using BI tools such as Snowflake and Looker to build a deeper understanding of data syncs.
  • Deep knowledge of Python and Django internals.
  • Experience influencing multi-functional decision making across product and design teams.
Compensation Range and Benefits
  • Salary Range*: $216,750 - $255,000
  • This role is equity eligible
  • This role offers a competitive benefits and wellness package
  • Subject to location, experience, and education
