POSITION SUMMARY:

In this intermediate level position employees will perform technical engineering tasks and/or computer-aided design (CAD) tasks to support electric utility construction and/or maintenance projects for JEA. Employees will apply and advance their knowledge of engineering methods, techniques, and procedures and computer-aided design (CAD) in support of electric utility infrastructure.

EXAMPLES OF WORK

  • Performs electric engineering analyses using appropriate methods as described in reference materials, including voltage drop and electrical demand calculations, and engineering economics in order to ensure soundness of system design.
  • Assists other team members (e.g. Engineers, Project Managers) in designing electric transmission, distribution, substation and generating systems by designing, plating, pulling drawings, providing input regarding designs, or updating the database.
  • Requests materials for electric transmission construction projects using work and purchase order systems and processes.
  • Operates drone and imaging equipment (e.g., corona camera) to inspect electric transmission equipment including in areas that are difficult to access due to location or height such as on JEA electric transmission towers to identify electric transmission issues and corresponding solutions (per assignment).
  • Trains transmission line contractors on the Transmission Line Inspection Procedure in order to ensure contracted work complies with this procedure.

OPEN REQUIREMENTS:

Education: High school diploma or equivalent and

  • One college-level course in Algebra and

Successful Completion of one of the following college level courses:

  • MicroStation
  • AutoCAD
  • ESRI ArcGIS

and

Experience: Four (4) years of experience in field utility design work in an electric utility required.

LICENSING/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRATION:

A valid driver’s license is required prior to employment and must be maintained during employment in this classification.
