Arcadis is looking for a Staff Traffic Engineer with interest in traffic engineering, intelligent transportation systems and traffic operations and design to join our Nashville Office. This position will assist our growing traffic and ITS group in developing Integrated Corridor Management (ICM) and Active Traffic Management (ATM) polices, conducting traffic studies, utilizing data to identify operational and safety needs, preparing plans, and CAV corridor planning. The candidate will have the opportunity to work alongside senior engineers across the Southeast to gain a better understanding of the transportation industry and to further develop their technical skills.

Since many of our traffic and transportation engineers have served in state or municipal capacities, we have a deep, localized understanding of regulatory and policy objectives.
Role accountabilities:
- Assist our growing traffic engineering group in Tennessee in the preparation of engineering reports, studies and analyses in a wide-range of areas including traffic operations, safety, travel demand modeling and transportation planning projects.
- Utilizes basic knowledge and experience with conducting and documenting traffic studies using nationally accepted modeling practice.
- Conducts traffic operational analysis using microscopic simulation software such as VISSIM, Synchro, SimTraffic.
- Responsibilities also include analysis of traffic signal operation on arterials and networks, specification of applicable data collection, development of new signal timing parameters based on detailed analysis, inputting traffic signal plans via central control systems and/or directly into local controllers, and design and analysis of traffic surveys to evaluate signal timing effectiveness.
- Assisting senior engineers in the preparation of traffic engineering plans for signal designs, signing and markings designs, and Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) designs.
- Assisting senior engineers with concept report preparation and conceptual designs for intersection improvements.
- Additional responsibilities will include operational analysis using microscopic simulation for intersections, corridors, and interchange traffic.
- Assisting in the developing ICM and ATM operations and maintenance policies, procedures and manuals
- Assisting in the Implementation of ICM and ATM operations and maintenance policies
Qualifications & Experience:
Required Qualifications
- 4 or more years of transportation or traffic engineering experience
- B.S. in Civil Engineering or related field from accredited university
- U.S. Driver’s License
- EIT with the ability to obtain your PE within two years of hire.
- Experience in one or more of the following areas: TDOT design standards, ITS design, Traffic Operations Studies, Intersection Conceptual drafting, and Safety Studies.
Key Skills /Attributes:
- Experience in one or more of the following areas: TDOT design standards, ITS design, Traffic Operations Studies, Intersection Conceptual drafting, and Safety Studies.
- Basic understanding of the use of traffic analysis tools (e.g., VISSIM, CORSIM, Synchro/SimTraffic, and HCS).
- Experience/ familiarity with Microstation, Synchro, VISSIM and/or Sidra
- Basic understanding of the application of traffic operations principles including ITE, MUTCD, AASHTO, and state DOT requirements, policies, manuals and procedures.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work well in groups as well as independently.
- Traffic Signal Field Operations / Implementation Experience
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering
- PTOE
- TDOT or local TN project experience
- Experience using Microstation, ArcGIS and Synchro/Sim Traffic
- Understanding and familiarity with MUTCD and DOT Design Guidelines and Standards (Georgia DOT and Tennessee DOT)
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office software including Word, Excel and PowerPoint
- Experience using Centracs ATMS or similar platforms
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $55,257.00 - $85,000.00 per year
