STATE BUILDING INSPECTOR (PART-TIME)
Job description
SCOPE OF WORK: Acts as State Building Inspector implementing the state building permit inspection program. Evaluates building permits and construction plans. Conducts building and fire code inspections.
ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Assists in the development of professional and technical building and fire safety standa rds under the direction of the Deputy Fire M arshal and according to departmental guidelines.
Reviews building plans for compliance with state laws and State Building Codes and State Fire Codes relating to the construction of buildings.
Implements the state building permit and inspection program; conducts inspections of all new construction projects in state buildings and others as required in RSA 155-A and Saf -C 8100.
Conducts training p rograms for building and fire safety pers onnel related to building safety, fire protection, fire prevention, and fi re inspection procedures.
Confers with city and town officials regarding building safety, fir e protection and prevention laws, rules, and statutes .
Reviews building and fire inspection reports and makes recommendations for uncorrec ted hazards, code enforcement, and recommends corrective action as required.
Performs code research and code analysis , makes recommendations, and attends meetings and administrative hearings as necessary .
Inspects build ings and structures to detect hazards and enforces local ordinances and state statutes.
Promotes effective application of State Building and State Fire Code s .
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

1.5 Years of additional relevant experience = Associate's Degree
3 Years of additional relevant experience = Bachelor's Degree
4.5 Years additional relevant experience = Master's Degree
Education : Bachelor's degree from a recognized college or university with a major in fire science, engineering, building construction, or related field. Each additional year of approved formal education may be substituted for one year of required work experience.
Experience : Four years ’ professional or paraprofessional experience in building code enforcement, fire prevention, fire inspection, or fire protection with responsibility for program im plementation, direct service delivery, planning or program evaluation. Each additional year of approved work experience may be substituted for one year of required formal education.
License/Certification : E ligibility for New Hampshire driver’s license .
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Certified Commercial Building Inspector, Fire Inspector I , II, or Certified Fire Protection Specialist or equivalent is preferred.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS :
Selected candidate will undergo a fingerprint based criminal background check and motor vehicle record check in order to ensure suitability for exposu re to confidential information.
